I'm not sure Anelka was a disgruntled Championship player!

Can only assume you're having a Biden right now. I was analogising us signing a disgruntled and or released etc Championship player NOW as being similar to us signing Anelka in 2006 or Okocha, Diouf...

You have to sign BETTER players to go UP the league.

Part of the reason we got relegated from the Prem in 2011/12 was due to us bringing in Championship players like: Tyrone Mears, Darren Pratley and Chris Eagles.

Toal for me, pretty much guaranteed a start, seems vocal, and puts in a shift.

His rise has been pretty spectacular given where he came from and has slotted in so well. Just wished he'd been played on the right much more which he clearly prefers.

And he absolutely loves the wanderers

It wouldn’t be someone from a lower division at all.

It should be an experienced guy with some authority who the others respect. Wouldn’t come cheap but it’s what we need more than anything else.

Hard to think of many examples of IE signing established outfield players from a higher division since we returned to L1.  Kachunga, JDB, Bakayoko in the 1st season, and of course Jerome last year but he was never going to be starter.  To get someone who is both a regular starter and captain material from a higher division seems unrealistic IMO, he'd be going to Oxford, Derby or Pompey before us surely.

I get your broad point, and I’m not getting into the nuances of our words!

The problem with forums, and the reason I’ve held off posting on here for so long, is that a robust debate suddenly gets dragged down by you saying someone is ‘having a Biden’. This term can only be taken in a derogatory way and removes from the actual discussion you’re having.

My main concern with the post is that you’ve written off these players as bench players before you’ve even seen them play. I can tell you now (and this is coming from a place of knowledge) that you can expect all of these players to be regularly involved throughout the season, beyond being bench warmers.

If you’re wanting disgruntled championship players through the door, you might well be disappointed. You’ll get your Premier League loan.

I’m off for a drink with my son, Hunter.

250-300k.

Would have thought it might be around that with all the add ons but considerably less up front.

Crawley fans unhappy, 7 of their play off winning starting team have gone or been sold with little in so far.   Their owners are data driven  "crypto kings".

Team player, tackles, leader, none of which Maghoma has in his locker.

He would have to play as a wing back IE doesn’t like wingers !

Don't think he'll be guaranteed to start with Johnston back and Forino's supposed to be a good'un, think the only guaranteed starter at the back is Santos

Aye but he picks up so many unnecessary yellow cards

Maybe we're over estimating the role of a captain these days

It's not like cricket where they can change things during a match

If a player fucks up any of the others should be able to say sort it out

Teams have had keepers as captain but they're not in the midst of the action

Great post.

I genuinely don’t care who the “named” club or match captain is.

However I do want to see more leaders and experience on and off the pitch.

Jack Cork is still without a club. Just saying.

The large majority of players we’ve bought or been linked with in the last 4 years I’ve known very little about.

But Jack Cork or someone similar to him fits my profile of the type of midfielder we need. If he was interested and in our range then I’d love to see us sign him.

I'm sure they were saying the same thing about him last year.

Jesus - if we can recoup some of the money we spent on him I'd snatch their hands off!

January then Dion got injured.

So we put a stop to it/put our price up

Wiki says he's a winger

So we'd sign him then never play him

Plays as either a wing back, winger or midfielder. Cracking player at this level.

Left or right side WB?

Right side he starts every game

Left side he might play 1 in 6
