Bolton fell to the same fate as Peterborough as they were also defeated in the playoff semi-finals, and will look to weaken their rivals with a move for Randall.

Based on that I'll take the rumour with a huge pinch of salt

That'll just be the journalist padding out the article rather than a reason we'd be in for him

Pete O is usually pretty reliable

Don't know anything about him as a journalist

But if you want to be taken seriously, surely get the basics right

Well, we didn't turn up for the final...🙄

I suppose

Anyway, I'd take Randall (based on my rudimentary search of YouTube 🙂)

The last ex Peterborough player I researched on YouTube was Marcus Madison....

I await lustys in depth analysis of this lad and how he performed against home and away.   I will accept nothing less.

Sorry to disappoint, but I haven't got the time, but he's handy, can tackle, pass and shoot with both feet and score a few goals and the Posh fans love him. Us signing him would be hard to swallow, however I'd be surprised if we do. Posh paid a million for him and they'd be wanting that kind of money. Question I'm asking myself is if we can spend a million on a player, would I choose Randall? - and I'm not sure I would if we were shopping in that price bracket.

That said, he's 24 and totally fits the Evatt player profile apart from his height.

Replacement for Sheehan?

Replacement for Sheehan?

Can we get anyone better for that money?

We don't know a great deal about him, other than his record and appreciation from their fans.

He may well be worth every penny.

We won't be spending a million on any player

We'd get more than 500k for Sheehan . No way an offer that low would be accepted.

He's out of contract at the end of the season, isn't young (for a footballer), and hasn't ever played above the third tier

If we did sell, I can't see it'd be for much higher

Now getting mixed views from Posh fans on Randall. Maybe because he's on his way out?

Quote

He's meh! Weak on the ball, his shooting is woeful. He is a poor man's Sammy Smzodics.

We can and should get a lot better, taxi to Bolton please.

Quote

He’s decent, but frustrating. Could be a great player, just seems to lack a bit of quick thinking and energy.

Quote

He is a good player. But massively inconsistent

Quote

He is a thinking footballer and can pick a pass.

Good player.

Quote

He played some brilliant passes into the box last year but unfortunately we didn't have a centre forward to get on the end of them.

Quote

I'm very much on the fence about Randall. He's good technically but I don't think he really affects play much, all fur coat no knickers. I wouldn't want to sell to a promotion rival but if someone else comes in with a decent offer I would be tempted to take it.

Quote

He was excellent for us last season. Happy for him to stay, but CCC will be pushing for his position this season. If its a good bid, I would take it, we cant keep losing good players for free when contracts expire.

Quote

I am glad it (BWFC bid) has been rejected...I am on the Pro Randall side of the whole Bovril thing about him.

With CCC playing centre forward, can we really afford to lose the most creative player we have and one that often causes all sorts of shite for teams with his movement ?

Over to the 'but he can't tackle crowd' on the other side of the whole Bovril thing. (I think he means Marmite)

Re above:

"CCC" refers to Chris Conn-Clarke who Posh have just signed from Altrincham for "undisclosed" (peanuts) having previously been at Burnley and on loan at Chorley. He was a NI U21 and is now 22. Scored 23 goals in 46 games and got 12 assists in the National League from midfield last season and was named National League Player of the Season.

If he turns out to be as good as the hype and we spend a fortune on the guy he's replacing I'll be disgruntled, especially as he's being playing practically under our noses.

Not for me this one for that kind of money, unless we’re getting it in from somewhere else? He’s referred to as Marmite and seems useful going forward but doesn’t like to tackle so sounds to me like a potential Sheehan replacement? Fine if that’s the case but we still need at least a good LWB and a tough tackling and experienced defensive mid so hopefully we’ve cash left for those as well?

At this point I'd rather bring in someone who's proven at this level rather than a punt, if we're serious about promotion

Just because they paid a million for him doesn’t mean we’d have to pay that to get him. Final 12 months of his contract. Would assume he’s signalled he wouldn’t be re signing so we’ve gone in with a figure that could tempt them. Exactly the way we operate now.

He barely played his first two seasons there

They're aren't getting anything near £1m

We bid a six figure sum, probably £300k

We're going in with an improved bid, probably £400k

If he's up for it can't see Posh putting up too much resistance

I agree, but we can't fill the whole squad with expensive signings and CCC sounds like the kind of cheap punt we could have brought in to compete for a starting spot rather than a "marquee signing" - if we'd been quicker off the mark

Not convinced Randall would be a "marquee signing" or is even "proven at this level" over any period of time but I can see the thinking behind it with Collins and Dion up top.

I like Sonny Perkins - a promising young striker but he's signed for Orient on loan hasn't he?

It will be interesting to see if we take any loanees this season - Evatt said something along the lines of us trying to wean ourselves off the loan market.
