But the weakness and desperation he showed at times when things weren’t going well tends to lend weight to the idea that he was manipulable by others in positions of power e.g. Markham and reacted the way he did to try to reassert his image of authority. IMO As for “mercurial” players - we haven’t had any for years and I include Dapo in that. What we have had is plenty of players who seem to have believed their own hype and as a result have ignored managers instructions to do their own thing, not been team players or been lazy. I agree that Evatt didn’t come across as being someone with the skills to bring out the best in them. I got the impression he wanted to be their buddy rather than their boss - but again, just my opinion. I would say bully, not buddy!
June 19, 20251 yr Let's get this thread back on track We've been strongly linked with Jame's McClean this morning

He started smashing the ale too hence him ballooning to about 20 stone. Those 2 results fucked us for the next 18 months, we never recovered. He never recovered. His relationship with the weak minded bastards never recovered. 😬
June 19, 20251 yr Popular Post Rioch got us promoted out of L1 Parkinson got us promoted out of L1 Evatt didn't so he's 3rd in that list of best managers for a start

June 19, 20251 yr Whatever people think about Evatt at the end (in fact way before the end) he had lost it and had no idea how to get things on track. He had to go, people should just move on.
June 19, 20251 yr 10 hours ago, Wanderlust said: So the club appoint a recruitment guru and former England national team analyst on a massive salary, who has direct contact with the board and is backed up by a team of analysts. Evatt says we need x or y. Said guru says to the board and to Evatt we need to sign this bloke - he’s the best guy within our budget for the role - just look at his stats. What’s Evatt going to say? You and your entire department are a waste of space and your (extensive) research is meaningless? Answer: Probably not. Although he should perhaps have asked to see what criteria they applied when measuring attitude and commitment. Woah there Hoss. Under Evatt we had similar positions and structure. They have now gone and are being replaced. Most of the appointments are made by the managers, probably in conjunction with their gaffers. SS also worked under a sporting director/director of football preciously, and has said he's happy with that structure. As for Evatt, clearly he hasn't worked with players in higher leagues, by the same token he hasn't opposed managers and players from higher leagues. The same obstacles are there to be overcome. Moreover, it's not uncommon for managers to cut their teeth in the lower leagues, BSA being a prime example.
June 19, 20251 yr Given the esteem Evatt was held in by Sharon - you'd think he'd died by the statements made the day we potted him - it's ridiculous to suggest he didn't have a huge amount of influence over the whole club. Almost as ridiculous as saying it's unclear whether his achievements here are better than Allardyce's. If you want rankings, in my lifetime he'd be just slightly above Coyle but below Megson. And nowhere near Parky & Todd, let alone Rioch/Allardyce.

And nowhere near Parky & Todd, let alone Rioch/Allardyce. Jimmy Armfield took over a club and squad that had just been relegated to the equivalent of L1, across two seasons had a win percentage of 45% (54% in second season), got us promoted in his second season and laid the foundations for the relative success of the rest of the 70s and us being promoted back to the top tier
June 19, 20251 yr Big Sam's got the best win ratio out of every single England manager that's ever been.
June 19, 20251 yr Huddersfield fans think they’re favourites for Ethan Galbraith from Orient for £2.5m after Orient rejected a £1.5m bid from Charlton. I don’t think it’s likely but that would be a statement signing if they did. Also confident of loaning the lad Goodman we were linked with who I’d personally have preferred to TSL. June 19, 20251 yr I think Huddersfield will go down in 3 years. The bloke is a clown who is in charge.
