It may also depend on the player - if he fancies the massive step up from a team at the top of the Scottish Leagues to League One he can maybe apply some internal pressure 👍

FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

  • Sure it's that Mandela effect in full flow here that we all seem to be OK with this. It's a fucking travesty and complete shitshow. He's our most prolific striker by a country mile, has been

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

This is where sell-on clauses kick-in. Based on what we’ve seen £500k is a fair price, but if he turns out to be a superstar, you can have 10% of any profit. Sell for £5m and Celtic get their full £1m.

We do have a nice history with celtic for an unknown (at the time) striker.

A valid/logical point. But you just know if we ever again get a superstar on our hands he'll run his contract down and go for free (and why wouldn't he?). If Celtic think he might become top quality he should be in their squad surely. I say good luck to them getting more than £500k for an unproven player they don't want/need.

Know you've been consistent with your view on Matete, fair play, underwhelming for me really, not terrible but nothing he was particularly good at either IMO.

I respect different views and we all see players differently (Etete aside). I just saw a player that could tackle cleanly, run with the ball because he had strength and control, and pass quickly and normally accurately. Attributes that as a while I didn't see in anyone else last season (they each had different qualities of course).

Knock backs are never made official though, in terms of club statements

That was my point

But I'm sure we've bid for the Salford and Celtic lad and been rejected

And I heard from a reliable source Roughan had talks

So in answer to the original question, I believe those are the knock backs we've had

If you don't fair enough

Of course they're not. But our offers etc aren't neither.

We may well have had offers turned down, no reason to disbelieve some of the stories, however until they become official, and business is completed either way on a given player; being negative, critical, and assuming the worst is plain daft.

Similarly, if a player has had talks, but doesn't want to come, then I reckon that's good news and a positive outcome. We only want ones who want to genuinely play for the club.

Indeed.

Makes it even worse :D

£1m for a lad whos only played in LOI?

Bit heavy that.

The report did say he'd played for the Celtic first team too, albeit not many times.

Anyway, what they're asking for, and what they will settle for are two different things.

I have a feeling we'll get him, but somewhere in the middle.

Looks like Fergal/Schumacher are bringing players in that are young, played at a decent level the last twelve months

and all have yet reached their full potential.

Along with getting rid of Ludonautics and maybe most of the current b team

Maybe the fact that they rate players like Dalby, Simonds etc and have handed them long term contracts which mean if they come good in the next two seasons and clubs come calling we have them under contract.

The lads from Salford and Celtic are two more that fit that type of player.......I dont see Schumacher building a team for next season.....This could be a two/three year project

He was consistently inconsistent.

As was every player in the squad, especially midfielders/forwards. Just comparing relative qualities with the others. I'm far from saying he's perfect, just that we don't have anyone that can do what he does (win the ball/hold off players with strength mainly).

Point of order:

5m-0.5m = 4.5m

4.5m x 10% = 450k

500k + 450k = 950k

Can't be letting that kind of sloppiness slide.

Absolutely. Who in their right mind would want Champions League when they could be taking on the likes of Bratford, Burton and Donny?

He's Celtics 6th choice striker, he's nowhere near the Champions League proper, he played off the bench in their qualifying matches. This is another Daniel Braaten.

I’ve never seen this lad but I have seen Charlie Kelman, Ali Jatta and Macca Langstaff banging in goals regularly in L1 and none of them would cost anywhere near £1m so I’m tempted to ask why we don’t go for proven over untested? There’s no guarantee any player will score goals but if the intention is to get promoted this season then give me a proven player at that level or better every time over another maybe one. Even the ones we have signed so far don’t have brilliant histories so surely some kind of assurance would be preferable?

Langstaff and Jatta have never played in L1 let alone banging in goals regularly. I’d also challenge Kellman being available less for a mill. Albeit that’s pure speculation on my part.

I also know nothing about the Celtic chap other than watching 1m 27s of his 7m highlight real on twitter.

How on earth do you know how much they would cost?

Absolute baloney that.

Clubs can ask what they want, and others can offer what they want. Only the agreed selling price reflects a players value at the point of transfer, unless it's a "soon to be out of contract" job.

We've just sold Collins for not far off a million, and he's older than this lad we have supposedly made an offer for.

QPR have reportedly rejected bids from Plymouth of £1.5m and £2m for Kelman. He is definitely worth far more than a million.

I'm dubious about the Celtic link. We may well have had a look at this lad and possibly even made a bid. However when a prospective selling club seems to be bandying about the fee they want then it's time to cool off a bit. Being used to try to create an auction is not where we need to be spending our energies and I am sure SS and Fergal will think the same. We seem to have suffered the same fate with N'mai from Salford.

I liked the Simons signing because there was very little pre-amble in the media and the Richard Taylor signing had absolutely none. The former came with a fee too. I hope we can do our business that way without being used and manipulated.

Our people will know what they're doing; how much they're willing to pay, and how long to leave it before moving on.

As above, it wouldn't surprise me if he does arrive- it isn't unusual for an initial offer to be pitched low, and then a second being made that reflects what the buyer is willing to pay.

Kelmans a number 10. We already have enough of them.

I love him but he'd cost a bloody fortune and we already have Randall.

Hopefully Randall will step up this season, but cant see him and Shennan in the same side. Just makes us lightweight.

I know we want to grow our own, but loans have been important to most promoted teams the last few seasons.

Wouldn't surprise me if we get at least 2 more in on loan and in the wider positions where young players are less exposed e.g. winger or full back.

Kelman is going to wba for circa 2 mill

To be fair they were just some bad examples.

Michael Obafemi joined Championship Swansea City from Premier League Southampton for £1.5 million in 2021-22 having played 32 games (inc subs) in the Premier League. We're talking about playing £1 million for someone who played in the equivalent of the National League for 1 season. Just seems crazy.
