Even SS has acknowledged we’re well short at the moment in forward positions.

However we’re arguably stronger in midfield and defence - the hope being that those we’ve brought in can do a better job in the Championship than those we’ve let go.

But I don’t think we need to pedal negative sound bites like this, especially when there’s 3 weeks to go before the season starts and we know they are busy behind the scenes trying to recruit, and we are well aware (or should be) that these signings we are waiting for were going to be further down the transfer window.

Seemed he had potential but SS mustn't be happy with what he's seen.

I don't wish to be unkind but I'd be amazed if Big Dave is playing league football this year. Think he'll need to drop down quite a bit and see if he can work back up.

Can't really judge until you see how the signings pan out - this time last year few would've assumed ACD would turn out to be a superstar and people were extremely excited about Dalby, EE, Gale, Simons and TSL (most of which are still here).

Really, we're going to sign at least four players in the next three weeks. But even then, whatever opinions people have on them will be totally different after we've they've played a few times and probably different again after a full season.

Look at Thomasson, plenty were happy to see him go and thought L1 was his ceiling (non league for some eh @Horwich 😂)

Purely out of interest, last time we went up, these played for us and made a career largely at championship level either with us or others:

Mark Little, Wheater, Beevers, Karacan, ALF, Ameobi, Buckley, Craig Noone, Robinson, Wilbraham, Pratley, Henry, Reece Burke, Josh Cullen, Adam Armstrong. Also Clough came back on loan.

To be fair that was a half decent list of players compared to what we've got as things stand today, arguably, and they went down on 43 points. We did have Madine up front and Alnwick in goal though, amongst others not upto champ standard.

He was better than etete but then I could probably have done a better job than him.

IIRC Lawrence was the higher rated of the 2 Dave is just more physical and that's what SS felt we needed.

Big Dave was a breath of fresh air at the time because we were absolutely drab, downed tools & had to watch the likes of Collins/McAtee/Lolos play acting on the floor for most the games... so when a big unit of a kid was bashing into defenders it was something to get behind. That being said he's obviously very green, thrown into L2 half way into the season at Accy were he wasn't trusted by their gaffer so wasn't the fit for him even though it was a great opportunity, could do with a season in the national league getting proper minutes.

Strangely Madine did much more for us that season than Cullen or Armstrong, who've both gone on to have very good careers.

Another week nearly gone and still no incomings. I know we’ve still a couple of weeks left but surely we need to be using these pre season games to acclimatise players but they’re just passing us by. For those who say there’s no rush I disagree. All but two of our competitors already have Championship ready squads and are just adding a few improvements. We on the other hand don’t have anywhere near a Championship ready squad despite our new recruitment team assuring they had a potential Championship target list months ago. I’d suggest that not one of the 5 we’ve so far recruited wouldn’t have been here if we were still in L1. It’s all very well waiting for PL loans late in the window but surely we can’t rely solely on that? Nobody’s expecting multi million pound super strikers and we may need a certain amount of risk in who we sign but there’s no sure sign so far of anyone coming in and that worries me.

Can't help but get the feeling our Championship list might have been made with unrealistic expectations.

Loan market from Prem hasn't even kicked off yet.... got to think a fair few will come from that.

Plus, there are still "decent" free agents knocking about as well... loads of time.
