July 16, 20188 yr Definition of world class would mean players who would get into the starting teams for most international sides in the world. Beckham ticks that box clearly. Beyond that I think its much more debatable. Ferdinand? Not for me. Terry? Possibly but a very English type of player. Gerrard? Again the trouble is you need a certain type of team around him. He wasn't fitting into the best Spanish 11 at the time, whatever way you look at it. Lampard? No. Rooney? No. Cole? Possibly at a push. Those players weren't at the level of Modric, Messi, Ronaldo, Coutinho, Kante, Varane etc....All those players walk into any international team, no questions asked. Beckham aside the rest are a level below generally IMO. What a load of crap!! So only 11 world class players at any 1 time?? You have picked possibly the greatest internation team ever, and used that as WC measurement!! ???????? No official explanation of the term world class exists. Its allways going to be down to personal opinion.

Cashley would have walked into any side align his prime, him being a massive bell cheese didn't stop him from being an excellent footballer

July 16, 20188 yr Zidane springs to mind. yep, there'll be others too I guess the next question is, are you picking a starting XI? a player doesn't get relegated from being "world class" because there's another one better than him (not IMO anyway) and Lampard had a better goal scoring record as well though Zidane has a WC and Euro medal (but so does Christian Karembeu)

If you don’t you might be very very good but not the best in your position.

If you don’t you might be very very good but not the best in your position. I don’t quite agree, as you can have more than one world class player in the same position. I would say to be world class means you are definitely in the squad.
