We're going to find it tough bringing in a striker that the fans are going to be right behind from the off. Looking in L2 there's no real stand out strikers who are at a good age ready for a step up, the top scorer is a 29 year old attacking midfielder for Northampton. Looking in our league there's nothing really there, you have good players already at promotion chasing clubs then you get your Sam Nombe/Jevani Brown types at Exeter who are having great seasons in terms of goals & assists but could be a case of having a one season wonder in a tactic that's making them flourish whilst also being newcomers to this league so defenders don't know much about them. Then there's a striker at Burton Albion who's third top scorer in the league but done absolutely nothing at all prior to this season. So we come to the championship where buying a prolific striker is not possible which means we have to take a chance on strikers who need a change of club & try to get them firing some way or other. Evatt will have seen that Dion was at his best when playing up top with a proper old fashioned physical 9 in Colby Bishop, so wants to bring in somebody of that ilk to try get the best out of Dion.

FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

  • Sure it's that Mandela effect in full flow here that we all seem to be OK with this. It's a fucking travesty and complete shitshow. He's our most prolific striker by a country mile, has been

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

Fwiw I doubt we are likely to get anyone better than Charles in this window, I just hope the lad regains his touch in front of goal as for me he's still easily our best striker.

Agreed. More than happy to stick with him. Perhaps Dapo's unplanned absence will provide a bit more impetus too.

Aye.

Dapo not doing a great deal.

Bod in instead or even Sadlier in what you'd assume is a more natural position for him.

22 games 4 goals. Top stat.

Still pisses on eaves.    May has looked decent the last couple times at our place, and pretty sure he had decent stats last season.   Am sure you could confirm

Mad thing is he’s on for our best return from a striker since Ricketts in goals to games I believe.

Just shows what stats can hide!  Charles has 7 goals in 20 league games including 3 pens.  Daryl Murphy scored 8 in 24 and I'm fairly sure none were pens.  And that was in a relegated team.

It was Nlundulu I was referring to.

Heard about Macauley Lamgstaff at Notts county. 22 goals in 23 games. Decent age.

Sort of player that could be worth a look?

I'm with that, Charles is a 20 goal striker if the team is set up to get the most out of him. That means being in a two with a strong lad he can feed off and the team getting the ball to him much quicker than we do now. We take miles too long to put the ball into areas he thrives on and don't do it on enough occasions in games.  I could understand the criticism of him if we were creating 15-20 scoring chances a game,  5-6 of those were dropping to him and he was scoring 1.

Ball seldom sticks to our current strikers , currently one of whom isn’t a striker really .Why Bod hasn’t started the last two games must be down to the aftermath of his nose op.Really hoping we can get someone who can hold the ball up & play in Charles it’s not rocket science .Bako  gets the odd goal but is a sub at best. Katchunga brings little to the table apart from his energetic closing down & constant falling over.We need a stronger type to mullah the defenders who constantly maul Charles & Dapo.

Unfortunately I have no suitable suggestions, but an Eaves ‘type’ is what we lack at the very least as an option & a counter to the Morecambe & Burton style teams.

Would be a hell of a signing, but I think he’ll be off to the Championship for at least £500k, possibly even close to £1m.

"Unfortunately I have no suitable suggestions"? Are you a scout for BWFC?

That first season, Steve Taylor was dynamite, then got injured.

A very charitable description.

Mostly he was pissed.

One stand out moment was on a Boxing Day match v Blackpool, away.  Around 2.30pm a tannoy announcement "would Bolton player, Mike Walsh, please report to the dressing rooms".

He became the sub. As Taylor hadn't arrived for the pick up, nor by his own steam.

He had, apparently yet again, found under a hedge out of his face.

Great player Road Runner & went on to conquer his demons elsewhere.

He's a smaller version of Dion.

I’d have no problem with Eaves, big and physical and maybe indicates a slight change in Evatt’s thinking? We have plenty good crossers of the ball but nobody to take advantage and like Madine would be useful defending corners and set pieces where we constantly struggle. As others have said he’d also be a good partner for Dion.

Yes he was and with Whatmore gave the Everton defence the runaround at Goodson in the first leg of the League Cup and had he not then suffered his cruciate injury I’m convinced we’d have got to the final.
