Any c*nt can run on (and usually, eventually, break) a treadmill loudly clomping out five or six minute miles on the flat or a slight incline...

 

I do the Army PFT on occasion but rarely take note of the score, but I will next time and report back - it's a piece of piss running on the flat - the machine does most of the work, I'm more concerned about my fillings juddering out than being worn out during these pointless electricity-aided sprints...

 

Try upping the incline to 14 or 15% and report back

 

Flat track bullies.

Most of these going hell for leather on the flat step off barely unfuffled and slightly red of cheek - especially those training at airy-fairy WAG friendly Tennis Spa establishments...

 

I could wring my t-shirt out to brew a teabag in a cup when I get off my 'world of pain' one hour and a quarter hill session...

My knees and achilles won't stand long street runs any more...:)

 

I go on Canon Slade grass track and do laps in the summer months, nice view of Winter Hill if a little monotonous.

 

Oh aye, there's a converter here...my 'walking' 8.2 pace is 12.6 on the flat, so there...:)

If we are throwing numbers around my Marathon pace is quicker than 12.6.

 

I am leading a team of 5 in the Hell of a Hill Marathon in Rivvy in November, join in that and I will shout you all the Brasso you can get down your neck on the piss up afterwards.

I might take you up on that...

 

I dunno about your weight but I'm hauling around a Private Pyle-esque 97kg atm, and, up until last week, I haven't done a tap for seven weeks (excuses etc.)

 

I'm going to get a Garmin or suchlike for the heartrate, last time I was really pushing mesen I started getting odd beats and palpitations at resting times later - sat watching telly or in bed. I'm not ruining my heart to improve times ;)

You use your hear rate to monitor your effort so I recommend you get one or use those on the treadmill. You seem to be pushing it too hard (which is going some for treadmill walking) for my training plan only 10% is at a high heart rate, the bulk is at talking pace, around 9 minute miles.

I'm just using the sensor handles on the treadmill every so often for a reading...

 

Probably due to the Stollen and Stilton and 300g bags of Balti Mix over Christmas but I'm alarmed to see the readings of 170+ after 15% peaks...

 

I'm definitely going to buy a watch/strap monitor for more reliable readings.

Get a Forerunner 235. Got mine on Black Friday and got 30% off. Sounds like you have pushed it a bit hard. ALthough my ave is 160 - going up to 170, but my resting ave is 56. Its drinking that does feck it up, so when I have two weeks dry its much better.The VO2 stats - whilst not as accurate as in a lab are good to give you an indication of how fit you are. 

 

That Hill Marathon sounds like hell.Managed to get from bottom of temple rd up to top of the dean in just under 13 minutes - was pleased with that, not sure if I could manage a hill marathon. It does make the hills they speak of round here a bit of a joke.

I'm sure those defibrillators are cheaper, I'll get one of those.

I've got a Garmin vivosmart hr plus. It's not as good as Crawley's but does the job and the Garmin app is good for monitoring your activity and heart rate. You can pick one up for about 120 quid. Seeing the increase in my resting heart rate the day after a heavy session made me think about my drinking at the weekend. Never really drink during the week anyway. Edited by RoadRunnerFan

As promised, Whites Man, I did the US Marine Physical Fitness Test on the treadmill toneet...The score? 78.

 

If that's shite I will say in my defence I was hammering along for four minutes at 13.8 pace when the f*cking thing flashed up 'FITNESS TEST STARTING' I'd gone flat out (for me, now) during the warmup. Still I finished it, average pace of 13.6.

 

Still prefer slow and steady steep climbs - the machine was wobbling all over the shop during the test, and I found it more mentally tiring than physical with the pace meaning one wrong step would've spat me off the belt - shin muscles/tendons were krebbing too, and I'm sure I'm not one of those 'Mongo Runners' (© DazBob) that need the pseudoscientific gait analysis etc.

I have to say it does a little too much - had to switch off the alerts - like being tethered to work.

 

The data is amazing, far too much for an amateur like me, but impressive stuff. Not even started downloading training plans yet.

I don't bother with alerts for the same reason. I could probably have got away with a cheaper one for what I use it for, but I wanted the built in GPS as I don't like taking my phone everywhere. Speaking of which I'm off for my Saturday morning treadmill run.

 

I like how the data is presented in the Garmin app, though a hardcore runner scoffed at me when I said that and said 'nobody uses the app they just look at the data on Strava'. Strava is deffo not for me.
