I like how the data is presented in the Garmin app, though a hardcore runner scoffed at me when I said that and said 'nobody uses the app they just look at the data on Strava'. Strava is deffo not for me.

Strava is about the community, like coming on here rather than the BEN website for Wanderers news.

I'm on strava but really couldn't care less about where FB mates go for runs

All about the data breakdowns, segments and analysis

I don't like the leader boards as all they tell me is I'm not that fast

Got 3rd best 5k time yesterday though wit 25.46

No better feeling than getting a segment record. And none worse than receiving the email sent when your record has been beaten.

Beating my own record aye

Have never been the actual record holder though, that's impressive

Looking at some of the times I'm sure folk round my way use roller blades or something

It’s usually some flatdick on a push iron that doesn’t know how to use her fancy new watch. Averaging 11 miles/hr? Aye alright love

You can search segments and find one where you have a chance of a record then really attack it a mile or so into a run when you are warmed up. Or as the other poster said log a bike ride as a run.

24:43 this morning, still slower than I'd like but heading the right way at least.

I'm sure Malc will be along shortly to let you all know how any pensioners and thalidomides beat me.

I'm hoping he'll do a full and proper breakdown by gender and age group.

Its not about times or macho willy waving.

I got paled by some amazingly fast runners today just training - male and female, 32 out of 450, 6th in my age group, 43.58 with three hills? happy with that.

But I saw some amazing folks today do their first 5k, really hard for them to do - some of the blokes were 20 odd stone - but they did it, their achievement was amazing.

.

It's the same with lifting weights and such like.

So many people are obsessed with what's written on the side of the dumbbell or plate they are lifting when all that is important is form and progression.

You get packs of young dicks lifting the heaviest weight they can find with a spotter either side pushing their arms up shaking all over the show and completing 3 half reps achieving absolutely nothing.

Then you get people put off lifting because they can handle starting on low weights.

Daft.

Eee, then you're slow as fook...

I wasn't posting my time as some sort of cock waving exercise, plenty folk faster than me, but it is about times for me in that if I get better ones and keep improving that's part of my motivation

To get my 3rd best 5k time at my age after injuries I've had of late makes it all the more enjoyable

I’m shit at running and hate it. However neighbour is doing marathon so been out with him a few times. Usually running 5.7km together around 32:30. Yesterday couldn’t get out with him, so ran alone and did it in 29:30.

Not mentally strong to run alone. Only think I bettered the joint time was cos I had nobody to talk to and just wanted to get finished! Plus it was cold and pissing down.

I will keep plodding on.

I know, I was only taking the piss.

It does feel good to beat a time. I didn't realise I'd given up smoking a year to the day on saturday, so I'm not ashamed to say I was bloody proud to get as high up the field as I did, still managing my ankle - need to get in the gym and start doing some leg weights.

Nice 5k this morning - proper wasn't feeling it when I started. Knee a bit sore, but then half of it's in your head. Wasn't going to be fast so did a few hill climbs, to work on getting faster at those.

Signed up to another 10k in feb, building towards the half again and then will get that first marathon in hopefully!

These are the dark days - cold, wet and easy to give up, but the feeling afterwards mentally is fantastic - much better than the physical side of things. To those plodding, and doing their first parkruns - good on you. Keep at it.
