I set myself a target this year to lose 10 lbs.   Only 15 lbs to go.

I’ve become a total running bore.   Now down to 12 stone from 14. Did a 10k, half and a 100 mile month last year.   This year it’s manchester half, few more Run throughs in London and aiming for E

It’s not as though you have to be Arnie with the weights, it’s more about strength- and you don’t want to be carrying loads of bulk for running.

Things I do every other day to help (and I say I still have to manage it)

- weighted squats

- balance on the edge of a step and raise yourself up on tiptoes and down

- lift one leg up behind the other and squat using the standing leg

- lie on your back and do leg lifts

No gym membership required!

Oh forgot - buy a foam roller.

Aye, could be your hip - I went to the doc and got free physio sessions that helped me.

As youri says, it’s worse at speed so hill inclines at a slower pace will build those muscles.

1. Get a proper medical opinion, not from Dr Google, folk off here or at the gym.

2. Inclines increase the load on the muscle/fascia/ligament etc so could worsen the problem.

Very true. Although my physio and doc visits were all pretty practical stuff. And for free on the NHS which I could believe, thought I’d have to pay but they got me right for my first long distance race.

I know it’s been a massive benefit to my knee - cutting mileage and increasing inclines. Also I underestimated the importance of a proper warm up. As White’s says - get a medical opinion so you know if it’s hip, gait, knee, tendons, mixture...

Putting more weight on it now walking about. Worst part is when sat at desk and then get up. Sharp Shooting pain and hard to get up but once walking not as bad as was (this Morning was struggling to put weight on it). Gonna go slower when it stops hurting for now.

Just attempted to go for a run for the first time in I don’t know when. Managed all of 12 minutes before I was back home bored as fuck. Decided it’s not for me as I can quite happily sit on my exercise bike (as I am now in fact) doing a relatively decent pace for 40-50 minutes while sat on my arse messing about on my phone.

He did what? The filthy white middle aged man.

Borderline Weinstein! :-)

This is the final straw!

12 minutes running and you are bored? Are you a kid with ADHD who has been on the Haribo all afternoon?

I can go out walking for hours without a problem. Maybe need to give it another couple of attempts when it isn’t freezing and take some headphones and that or at least run alongside someone else to keep me going.

This is the final straw!

Ha ha ha!

I’ve pissed you off numerous times over the years, but I think I might be achieving maximum irritation.

Still coming to my 40th though? It’s a running party.

Almost poetry that.

And people say you’re a bit thick. Honestly, jokers.

Had my first beer on Friday since Jan 1.

Tasted shit. Spent all weekend topping up and being hungover and I'm gonna feel diabolical tomorrow.

I just haven't got the mental capacity to deal with binge drinking.

Did the relatively new Sale Water parkrun this morning. Muddy in parts but flat and could be a quick one I think. Really enjoyed it.

Leg still fucked

Walking football finally being rolled out down here (and not before time).

Might be giving it a go.

Run around there now and then, good to see they've got a Park Run.... might entertain it sometime soon, nearest one to me I think.

Did a 13km run yesterday. Was all good until about the last 3km - wind really got up, was exposed to the elements. It was 2 steps forward, 1 step back - that strong! Then I was side onto it for about half a mile - FML, thought I was either going into the road or the field next to me, think I was running diagonally at one point!

Sore today. Not for me this running malarkey!

Running just causes me too much pain.

Just had 5 days in Prague with the wife and we walked over 60km whilst there.

Love walking on city breaks like that. So much to see - often dig out the places you'd never find otherwise. Saves you a few bob in taxis and good for your health!! Winner-winner.

We did that on our recent visit to London. Avoiding the usual tourist hot spots was a good choice and you end up stumbling upon some gems of pubs and shops.

With the missus being disabled we found it was easier to use the bus to get around central london than the tube, we saw so much more of the city than we had in the past and we spotted places we wanted to go to en-route

Losing a few pounds sat in trap 3
