The EU been stalling already and blaming the UK, folk will slowly begin to see through their tactics and I think you'll see a hardening against the EU in the UK public.

 

That may well be true.

So far it is being reported as a Merkel 'victory', but that is no more the case than May's 'victory' in June.

Maybe it's time to unveil the Irish solution (if only there was one).

The rise of the AFD is the interesting part. This is what is likely to bring Merkel into line, certainly with her madcap immigration policies - the loss of conservative voters to a party with extreme right wingers at the helm.

 

With 13.5% of the vote, they will be in the Bundestag for the first time since the reforms following WW2. The rise of the right has been happening everywhere but perhaps this, more than anything previously considering Germany's relatively recent history, will finally wake up the masses to the fact that further meek acceptance of left wing inspired political correctness and all of its nonsensical excesses has to stop and even be redressed.

If you are looking for a reason for the rise of the extreme right, look no further than Momentum, Antifa etc. The increased presence of extreme right wing parties throughout the European political scene can be attributed to groups like this and the actions of governments like Merkels throwing the doors open and allowing terrorists to simply walk into town.

This. Its getting quite worrying now. Corbyn was strengthened by the election and the centre ground and left of centre are severely neutered now. The only people in that space are the utterly ridiculed Lib Dems.

 

In Europe you see it too. Far left, far right - they become appealing when people think everyone else is in the system. And that is fine till the system is perceived to be working against folk.

I read a book recently by John Lanchester which made a great point. Firstly that western liberal democracy remains the greatest form of civilisation that man has ever known (not perfect but still the best). He argued that while communism was still seen as a competing economic model the two were engaged in an 'ideological beauty pageant' in which each competed to provide the best for its citizens in terms of wealth and social justice - a race that capitalism won hands down. He them argues the following the collapse of the Soviet Union - there hasn't been a competing ideology and therefore social justice and equality have been allowed to slide onto the back burner. So he thinks it's this widening inequality and subsequent financial crashes which have proved the fertile breeding ground.

That's the one. This and 'Why it's Still Kicking off Everywhere' which is also excellent were on my holiday reading list.

 

'Race' was my word rather than his - he sums it up much more eloquently than I ever could - and whilst it's an over simplification I think he's correct to an extent.
