Farrelli Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Project McFear - the hypocrites are out in force tonight🤣 Quote
Not in Crawley Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Interesting to listen how Brexit is going to effect transfers in the Premier and football league. It seems as though prem clubs won't be hugely effected but lower down the leagues to get European players on a point based system might be more difficult. Same with managers it seems as well. It appears someone like Ole wouldn't have qualified to manage Manchester United under the new system. Quote

Spider Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Had the email below this morning. Seamless transition? This is going to cause havoc across thousands of businesses. It's almost like they just got any deal they could. "The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has contacted us this morning asking for help. They have had reports of companies experiencing difficulties around understanding import VAT requirements when exporting to EU countries, and they would like to understand how this is impacting our members. These difficulties have been noted with colleagues across Whitehall, and an inter-departmental meeting has been organised for tomorrow (Thursday) with BIRD, DIT, HMT, and HMRC to discuss what further support can be provided to businesses. Currently HMRC only deal with UK VAT policy, and DIT are limited in what support they can provide as each EU country’s VAT procedures is unique to that country." Quote

I can't begin to tell you the issues that we've been coming across in the last week or two - it is a bit of a shit show trying to get stuff out to Europe at present. Coupled with the havoc at the ports, it's a bit chaotic to say the least. Even our couriers don't know what paperwork is or isn't required, and we're talking about proper bigboy global couriers here, who you would think might be on top of it Our biggest issue, it seems, is a load of tariffs that have appeared on products, that we thought wouldn't be affected Fortunately, we've actually set up an entire department to try and deal with this stuff, so I'm not getting involved. It'll get better eventually, but it's not easy at the minute that's for sure - "seamless" it certainly isn't Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Are they actual tariffs, or cost rises through increased paperwork? Was never going to be seamless, irrespective of what was said. Quote

With a lot of the products, if we brought them in direct from China there wouldn't be any tariffs, but as a lot of the product has to transit via centralised hubs in the Eurozone and not come here directly, then we get stung with them when going from the EU to us. Some battery cell related products have seen an uplift of 8% which is pretty significant to any bottom line There are other price increases which are freight related, which are down to capacity and paperwork as well though, and you'd expect they'll sort themselves out in 12-18 months or so. Its a shitstorm of paperwork going to and fro with nobody accepting any responsibility for anything. There is about £50million worth of copper stuck in Felixstowe and loads of different BRITISH manufacturers are in bother if it isn’t released soon. Like now, soon. Meanwhile, Jonny van de Europe is continuing to shift stuff around the EU with a big wankers grin on his chops. Quote

The people who needed it should have just ordered it earlier so they could get it before 1st January, if they'd just done that, they wouldn't have a problem. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Is this copper the 'raw' stuff for use here, or finished goods ready for export? Quote

Silly bastards. Lets gloss over the fact some orders are months old and the metal exchanges don’t work like a shopkeeper bulk buying bog roll shall we? Quote

The knock on into the real world will become more noticeable for people who’s heating systems fail (and they do at this time of year) and they are told replacement parts are embargoed a few miles down the road. Spider Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Just realised what you meant, sorry. The question was where does it originate Theres more to it than that. We buy through the LME, so whilst the copper originates in various countries, we are technically buying from london as that’s how it works. Quote
