MickyD Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 I didn't think a flight to Dublin required a passport provided you have photographic ID. A drivers licence, for example. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Do the children have to be interviewed now? Genuine question- my mum had to go for one. Seventy year old and never left these shores before her cruise. I know security is important, but she couldn't even carry a rucksack. Quote

No they don't, but you can't do same day appointments on children Quote

Escobarp Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 No need to enter the api. It's purely to speed check in at the airport up. more folk that gave pre done it the easier at the check in desks. Quote

You have to go through passport control when you land in Dublin so you do need one (will be a fucker post-Brexit as the non-EU queues are fucking huge especially if a Yank flight has landed) but I don't recall ever having to show it when landing back in Manc and I certainly didn't have to show it either way when I took the ferry from Holyhead Belfast flights have always been fine with a driving licence Quote
MickyD Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 It seems RoI as well. www.answers.com/Q/Do_people_need_a_passport_to_go_to_the_Republic_of_Ireland Officially, citizens of the UK or Ireland don't need a passport to enter Ireland from the UK, but all other nationalities do. But you need some form of ID to prove you are an Irish or British citizen, and the only form of ID generally accepted are a drivers license or a passport . Quote

You may need a passport to get on the plane though, that depends on what the airline accepts as appropriate photo ID, but, you can get in and out of Ireland without a passport with no issue. Quote
MancWanderer Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 OK. Fair enough. Our Dublin office told us to always carry a passport to come in via the airport so I always have done and have always gone through passport control I'm there on Wednesday so I'll see what happens using my driving licence...........with my passport in my back pocket!!!! The airlines may not accept a drivers licence as proof of ID, I know Ryan air only accept a passport, but that's for their own policy and not any requirement to get in and out as such. Before the " current" security upgrades, and from around the late 80' s , I used to fly in and out regular and had no passport, even with all the shite that was going on in those days. Some flights I only had the tickets for the plane and a bag, amazing to think that now. Quote
