Since when was the Lever End imaginative ???

The boxer never heard of him.

Frankie Tiger Taylor Professional boxer from 1962-66

Won 27 of 31 fights, 22 on KO's

His most famous fight was in 1963 at the Royal Albert Hall against previously unbeaten Lenny The Lion Williams. Newspapers were full of it. The 20-year old Tiger won.

Lenny's no longer with us but last I heard the Tiger was still living in Morecambe

No need to be rude. Its Chunky Taylor to me. Frankie (Tiger) Taylor was a well-known boxer of the day best remembered for his epic fights against Lenny (The Lion) Williams

Not rude at all. I can only assume that you are a relative JCL. Gordon 'Tiger' Taylor was a favourite of the Lever End in his day. Answered to Tiger and chants of "Tiger, Tiger Taylor" were commonplace during his time as our flying winger.

3/10. See me.

Probably belongs on the Memory Lane thread and it is a bit of trivia but the name/nickname Tiger continues to be associated with the surname Taylor. e.g. The Darkness drummer, Rufus Tiger Taylor and Queen's drummer's daughter, Tigerlily Taylor. Don't think it started with Chunky though.

He’s Trust board member met him at the steering group for the trust seemed a decent fella.  I’m not part of the steering group now so don’t know anything about this new company.

I think he was the guy that appeared on GranadaTV recently. Seemed reasonable enough and the point he made about 'spinning plates' was apt. The ST lost support by backing the loser in a two horse race and some daft comments on social media by folk associated with it. And no I didn't see the stuff in the BN. Can't say I'm a big fan of its reporting of BWFC's financial difficulties.

JCL? You've lost me.

Gordon Taylor 'a favourite' in a team that included Eddie Hopkinson, Roy Hartle, Frannie Lee, Freddie Hill and Wyn Davies? Not for me I'm afraid, but I stood on the embankment  with a sllghtly better view.

Flying winger? I remember him being described as like a wound-up clockwork mouse. It was a bit cruel but not difficult to understand the observation..

See me? No thanks.

As for the real Tiger Taylor, he had a career in journalism after retiring from the ring.

Here's a bit about him written in relation to a boxing night of nostalgia held at the Savoy in 2015:

''He (Bobby Neill) also managed and trained world rated boxers including bantamweight Alan Rudkin and middleweight Johnny Pritchett, as well as featherweight Frankie ‘The Tiger’ Taylor whose epic clash with Lennie ‘The Lion’ Williams at the Royal Albert Hall is one if those domestic dust-ups which remains lodged indelibly in the mind.''

Maybe there were a few on the Lever End in the 60's with delible minds or no idea about anything going on outside Great Lever.

You are a very good judge. Bolty only sees his view of anything.

By the way, JCL = Johny come lately.

Thanks for that.  I don't remember many chants about players back in those days and even if I don't remember any Tiger,Tiger Taylor chants I couldn't say they didn't happen. I expect I would have thought it ridiculous and not taken much notice but it could also have been satirical.

His greatest claim to fame though is as the highest paid Trade Union official in the world. He was granted an OBE in 2008. Can't remember what for.

Seconded never heard him called chunky he even had a song as well

'Tiger Tiger Taylor'

Used to see him in the Crom with Dave Lenard on a Saturday neet.

Must admit, I remember his nickname as 'Chunky', his nickname now is 'greedy cunt'.

Got to back Bolty again on this one , asked a few old mates in the pub last night what Gordon Taylors nickname was & they all said Tiger

Maybe in the posh seats he was called something else but not on the Lever End .To be fair they didnt chant on the embankment just struggled to keep dry.

There was some early inventive chanting from one section of the embankment based on the popular music of the day. One I remember was about John Higgins based on the Hollwood Argyles record "Ally Oop''. Another with a bigger following was a chant based on Huey ''Piano'' Smith's record "Don't you just know it'' usually chanted after the opposing team had missed a sitter. Check 'em out on Youtube. See if you remember them

No songs or chants about Eddie Hopkinson, Franny Lee,  Freddie Hill or even Nat Lofthouse but one about Chunky Gordon. Doesn't seem right somehow, does it?

Can't help you with Dick Pym; bit before my time
