I used to despise them - the defeat in the cup early 90s and then the 6 - 0 drubbing felt like daggers to my heart.

 

I think playing them regularly and beating them on occasion dampened the intensity.   I also have to begrudgingly acknowledge what Fergie did.

 

I reckon the older generation and proper, local Utd fans would see us a rival in the local derby sense.   Problem is that's about 10% (being generous) of their support.

 

Not a fan of either but seeing Liverpool or City have success is still rather pleasing.

 

edit - And any Bolton born Utd fan is a cnut of the highest order and should be deported.

Here's my league table.

 

1. United - this will never change. I would say I once hated them, now I just can't stand them. That's probably the mellowing of age. No football fans like them - even those who aren't 20 mins up the road from the insufferable cunts. That's because they are ..... insufferable cunts.

2. Wigan - sorry but they have made their way up my list. There's enough water under the bridge now.

3. Blackburn - geographical reasons, lots of history, that period when they lorded it just because of Jack Walker's money. 

4. Blackpool - always despised this lot, we all know the history. They hate us almost as much as Preston. I enjoy a victory over these a great deal. 

5. Burnley - I previously had a bit of a soft spot for them on the grounds of being a very similar club to Bolton. Not after the Owen Coyle episode. At some point, time, & the cyclical nature of football will catch up with this lot and they'll be within our grasp and I look forward to knocking them down a peg or two.

6. Bury - I just don't like losing against them after that run of good results they had against us in the 1980s. If we're not in the same division - fuck em.

 

Couldn't care less about Wolves, that was a 90s thing. Tranmere are a laughing stock now and forever more shall remain, Preston don't come in the reckoning, neither do City.
