Where are you Saturday for our biggest game of the season again? #missuswon’tlethimgo

  • Agreed with that. Even if he only lasts 60, the threat Verlinden provides going forward will be vital to hopefully put us in front and keep the moaners onside. Can't imagine it will be a pleasant

Someday someone is going to get a right tonking off us. Hope it's Saturday.

We got away with it today. We'll not play a worse side within the next two seasons.

I'm struggling, really struggling, to comprehend playing Bridcutt at CB. He's one of the division's best CMs but one of the division's worst CBs.

We won, and by God it felt good, but we need to be so much better.

Worst 3-2 game ever

Luckily I cashed out as they made the sub

For me, it would be a massive fail on hills part if he can't get a player good enough for this level out of zouma

In fact, I'm more than a little concerned about the lack of sightings of politic too

Politic has struggled to impose himself on tings when he's been given opportunities, but then I'm not convinced that isn't because he's being played out of position. From what I know of him, which admittedly is not a lot, he's more suited to a central, No.10 role than one on the wing.

Today wasn't 3 at the back

Bridcutt was a bona fide centre back

I'm hoping Zouma was unavailable

I'm thinking Edwards will be eased back in

Looked very good early season

And earls booking reminded me of Alonso efforts at being a defender

Bad, really bad

Looked to me like they started with him in a back 3 but changed first half to a 4. Possibly when the injury to their lad happened? Pivotal moment that fit us, took their momentum away. Bridcutt got to be CM for me, and I thought Edwards looked better than Zouma in those first games so if he’s fit he’ll do for me.

Had a couple of Northern shrimpers with us; according to them, they pick that #7 up for his debut on the coach in the way to an away game, he’d never met anyone before and he bagged a hat trick?! Not a clue if it’s true but he looked to have a good touch - v much like Verlinden the way he carried it.

Belting day and result all in all, performances not as Impey’s this as results right now

And there’s nowt wrong with my coat :)

Was Earl's booking the one where the Southend player was pulled down right on the edge of the box?  I thought that was a masterful bit of play. We've seen what happens when they stand off and watch players go through.

Just watched highlights

Jesus some absolute awful defending from both sides

Hopefully when we meet next season we tighten up

Aye just seen the goals again, terrible defending for both goals. Looks like a nailed on handball for our 1st, like it rolled down his arm then he flicks it up for the volley. Great technique on our 2nd.

Their second goal looked as though the keeper left it to go wide. Ooops!

For me if doesn’t matter if your players cost 100m or journeymen freebies that first goal was shocking and its basic defending, they practice situations like that in my lads u11 side

Just a point, that Lennon guy who scored has been playing 6 years and yesterday increased his career goal tally by 25%

That’s what I originally thought.

So maybe I wasn’t imagining things after all, thank fuck for that 😂

No they started as a back four.

I was on ground early and they warmed up with the 4.

Fair enough. Looked to me like they switched it 20-25 in but I had had a Guinness or two 🤷🏽‍♂️

I watched that fucking rubbish sober.

That’s no way to watch Wanderers

I thought we started as a three initially, but soon shifted.

Clearly very flexible...

One thing hill changed early on when he realised  it wasn’t working was swapping the wingers into there natural sides instead of having them having to cut in all the time think that happened around 20 minutes in

Seems like he does it every time he plays them both, get the feeling he doesn't make the swap in reaction to how things are going it's more like a game plan of"they've done XXmins on one side so now they can go on the other". Maybe he thinks it affects the opposition more than it is just pissing about for the sake of it.

Absolutely awful defending for both, in fact no defending whatsoever. I couldn't see a handball from where I was, but if you are right it looks like we really rode our luck what with the touch judge flagging them stopping then flagging again. What was the problem there?

Talking about having a Guinness or two, who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to let pissed up supporters loose on the pitch at half-time to do the Golden Gamble draw?

Verlinden came back from an off side position in build up. But ball came of their man.

Also worth noting this goal and third came as a direct result of us working to close the ball down. Something we never did under Parky.

I didn't say I agreed with having 11 back, I said if you did it for corners you'd be daft not to do it for a long throw. I personally prefer at least one player on the half way line because that takes two players to defend.

Exactly.  I've yet to speak to a fan that doesnt agree, and its not a naive "let's attack them" tactic, its more effective defensively by making 2 of their players think about defending rather than attacking.  In all the analysis you hear on TV, radio etc I'm yet to hear anyone say its an effective tactic, I've lost count of the number of free shots from the edge of the box that ends up in the back of the net, scored by someone that should have been forced to stay back on the halfway line, because with 11 back nobody ever marks those on the edge of the box anyway.
