If you're at a loose end - I've had to be doing quite a bit of work on consumer behaviour - thought this was an interesting find about the UK and current changes and feelings about economic recovery https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/marketing-and-sales/our-insights/survey-uk-consumer-sentiment-during-the-coronavirus-crisis

Of course you may ask.

I never had you as anything other than open-minded and inquisitive!

Like all of us, I am interested to see if we get out of this in a reasonable place. I am interested in different views and perspectives to see if we could be doing anything better, hence reading different things.

It would be interesting to see, for example, if Sweden's more liberal approach pays dividends.

Right now, we don't know which approach might work out best.

it just makes my shit boil when he starts off in the first paragraph with these lines:

If the virus is so bad

a picture is beginning to emerge based on some initial hard data

quite different to the one routinely presented in the mainstream media

gives a misleading impression of the real situation.

Here are the important data points for gaining a true appreciation of the nature of the beast.

and here's some pictures

that last one is of chinese queuing up to pick up the ashes of the dead

regardless of how folk might want to spin the numbers to suit their narrative, the world can not cope with the velocity at which the virus is killing people who may or may not have died anyway, and as it stands, all we currently have to try and slow it down is lockdown, whilst erecting emergency hospitals and morgues to cope

but that guy is trying to convince us that the true picture lies in the numbers, and the real world is just overreacting

To widen the range of views available, to look, without previous bias, analytically at an article and determine its validity, accuracy etc?

As it is, it seems no one particularly agrees with it, for a range of reasons ( peelyfeet's comments that it is selective in its comparison is telling).

Doesn't do any harm though to occasionally look at something in a way you've not previously done- just that in this case it doesn't offer anything which would make me think differently.

Agreed.

Publications like the conservative woman are preaching to an echo chamber already, most who read the article won't be changing their opinions, just reinforcing them either way. Anyone who wants scientific advise will be getting their info from scientists - if they want  an ultra conservative, christian, nationalistic point of view then they go to the conservative woman.

I think it does though, but I might be wrong

Why are people getting so annoyed by this?

as I think it was @Mr Grey said most of the people who would be influenced by any article such as this are unlikely to be particularly literate.

We all know this is gravely serious. I don’t believe anyone on here is going about life in any other way that that prescribed to us by the government currently. As such it’s a moot point

Ok, let me rephrase...

What is it about the specific credentials of Will Jones from ConservativeWoman.co.uk, that makes you believe his take is worthy of 'makesuthink' type consideration, given it contradicts a mass of experts worldwide, the governments who have deemed this serious enough to tank their own economies and the front-line health staff who all believe this to be a very big thing indeed?

I wasn't aware of Will Jones at all until earlier today. That he has a PhD did not sway me at all.

I posted it primarily as Casino was looking for insight into the number of deaths that might have happened in any event.

Personally, I agree with you, that our Government seems to be a decent job

Like i pointed out to Zico, these pricks wont be reading any articles at all, they are just pricks who will do as they please until the Law gets a hold of them.

The article is to be taken with a pinch of salt, its an opinion and contains 1 or 2 valid points and arguments.

True

True - not much point arguing on here - i might log onto the conservative woman comment sections and give him both barrells

Shut the fuck up Peston. How irritating is listening to someone interrupt over a webcam feed that has a bit of a delay on it. Ignorant cunt!

I can’t watch Peston. They way he talks gets right on my tits, like he’s dragging every other word from the deepest darkest depths  of his memory. I imagine being on webcam amplifies it fucking loads.

because of fucknuts like these two - fortunately the first guy only has 24 followers

and however literate folk who crack on as normal might be, they only need to read the headline to justify their behavior

Mentioned a couple of times about using face masks in public in the Czech Republic. It seems to be generating interest elsewhere.

It's not just a blogger on ConservativeWomen.co.uk, Trevor Kavanagh in The Sun and Toby Young have both offered up variations of the 'wake up sheeple, it's just flu' column in the last few days.

It's exactly the type of shit that re-inforces views, gets shared widely on Facebook and ultimately sees people take this virus far less seriously than they should be.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11310363/coronavirus-infect-half-swedens-population/

“This is such an infectious disease that over half of Sweden's population will be infected before the end of April,” reports Svt.se.

“After that, the spread of infection will not stop, but it will go slightly slower so that about two-thirds will be infected by the end of May.”

The relaxed approach has caused consternation in its Scandinavian neighbours – Denmark, Finland, and Norway.

They have all introduced a no-nonsense lockdown strategy, closing schools, workplaces and borders weeks ago.

The three countries combined death toll is less than Sweden's.

I'm more and more convinced that each country is told to take a slightly different stance in what they're doing. That way a "best practice" can be developed and use the version which had the best results.

Yep - it emboldens those who already think like that to act like morons. The idea that it isn't read by those types is nonsense. You can see their semi-illiterate tweets repeating this sort of drivel. Its harmful and unhelpful in my view. What's enlightening is that any criticism of the government's approach is classed as "not pulling together and political point scoring" by the very same people defending this criticism of the government. Illuminating. And bloody obvious!

Sounds a half decent idea, but not sure governments would be very popular fucking around with peoples' lives like that.

Well, it’s an experiment to beat this thing, so it would be smart if we had a global team working on it, perhaps?

Think this is more justification for giving Twitter etc a wide birth.

Not healthy and fucks with your head.

Stick to here, running, wanking and ale.
