Kate Garraway’s interview this morning is fairly sobering.

Did Maitlis interview her?

REST OF EUROPE 330

That's a fine effort

Is that comparing apples with apples though?

I thought the UK death toll yesterday was c.170

The government give a total based on confirmed CV positive tests that have caused death in a hospital.

Then the ONS (?) provide the actual number of deaths with CV on the certificate.

Lies, damned lies & statistics.

The trend is downwards overall, but it's dragging its heels. Plenty will see the irony in that.

We were 2 weeks or so behind most of europe peaking and Spain went from 300 deaths to 1 in a day...

I'd take it all with a pinch of salt. Data integrity is shot to shit all over the show.

Thousands of shops, like mine, have had to close (open on the 15th) Thousands of hairdressers closed (open on 1st July earliest) Restaurants, Cafes, etc. No Football, cricket, rugby, horse racing. Cinemas, bowling alleys, theatres. Hotels, guest houses, camp sites.
I may have missed some. This has affected millions of people.
Thousands, maybe more, vulnerable and Older people have been in isolation for many weeks and see no end in sight of their misery. Presumably, you’ve had an easy time of it.

Yes it’s different for everyone. My and my other half are furloughed until the end of July at the earliest. Can’t see us back in until Sept/Oct that’s if the rest of the business can keep it going to save us going back. I’m currently getting 87% of my wage and with my travel costs stopped I’m pretty much getting the same until August. Then, if it drops looks like I’m on the lookout for a part time gig somewhere, hopefully there will be night shifts somewhere available. Not been sleeping well due to worry - it’s not easy to plan when you have no idea of a timeframe.

Thankfully, the landlord has cut our rent from £1,700 a month to £1,000 for as long as we need - that’s super lucky as she lives in Barbados and doesn’t have a mortgage.

This has been a tough week, I’ll admit it, not feeling great at the moment. Started well, then done loads of house jobs, sick of being at home. I know I’m better off than most but some weeks are just tougher than others.

My family are up North, mrs family in Durham, Her best friends in Edinburgh and our mates here are all spread across London and the South East was going to meet up today in town but we all felt it was still not a risk worth taking on the train. One bloke has his mum and dad staying with him and didn’t want to come in from Windsor quite sensibly.

It’s different for everyone, but nothing is back to normal - trust me I’d like nothing more than to get back to work but I can’t see me promoting a show at the 02 anytime soon, even the smaller gigs have no start date in sight. All media revenue has dropped, even gaming and all film releases other than streaming have stopped - most importantly production, so no new content.

Our neighbours are film and TV editors, on one programme the fella was working on it’s costing so much in storage that they’ll try one more time to start up but if anyone gets sick and they have to close down again, the second series is just binned as they won’t have the money for the breakdown and then storage.

It’s going to take a long time to get back to normal, it’s going to be a tough road for many millions of people.

£1,700 a month rent? Fucking nora. How many turrets does the place have? Must be a hassle cleaning out the moat every springtime an all.

Yep. That’s why it annoys me when I see people flouting the rules/guidelines etc. I should have reopened on the 1st but it was put back to the 15th. Just hoping nothing changes in the next few days.
Hope everything goes well for you.

So In reality the deaths that were proven to be related to covid are disclosed. The others mention potential on the certificate.

I know legally which of those deaths are due to covid and which others maybe maybe not. I also know which stat I would look to. Not sure “might have had” would stand the test

ONS numbers are for excess deaths above the 5 yr average. They include confirmed covid cases within this.

Legally or not, the likelihood is that covid caused the majority of the excess deaths, the folk who died just weren't tested.

When this info has been analysed at local level in multie countries,  the high excess deaths appear in the same areas as high confirmed covid deaths, and vice versa, so it's either a coincidence or something else is killing lots of people before their time in areas with high covid deaths.

Ha ha - yeah Laaaadan innit. It’s only a three bed townhouse just in zone 4 with not much of a garden.

Think be fair to say excess deaths will at the moment be including vulnerable people who would have died later in year. So we will have to look at the full year to get a clearer picture.

I'd imagine it includes excess deaths as a result of suicides... Read somewhere they've doubled. Usually about 9k a year.

Also those who were due surgery or other potentially life saving procedures that have been delayed.

Khan has (had) the power over TfL, but not all the train services coming into London. I also recall he said that he wanted a consistent message to be given during the lockdown, so wouldn’t go against official Government advice. He was therefore lobbying for a change of official approach and wanted to work with the government to achieve it. They ignored his and others’ calls at the time.

I'm not having a go at my mate on this, just think it will be intriguing being a lawyer V a lawyer.

I saw a bloke sneeze all over the dairy section in Aldi yesterday then wipe his nose on his sleeve. No mask, didn't even try to cover his sneeze.

Still ended up fingering her.

I usually just spit on my fingers, but whatever works I suppose.
