If you think this is over, you're deluding yourself. No government in any country in the world (apart from Belarus) believes that there's any proof that the virus won't bounce back to some extent unless we continue with restrictions.

As long as they believe that, and as long as the test results continue to show very low % of positive cases, they aren't going to change their minds. They're scared of it coming back stronger in winter, scared of infections coming in from abroad.

Correct. Some of the comments both on here and on other social media platforms are similar to the ‘its only flu’ comments at the start of this. When the deaths add up, people change their minds.
We have to get back to some form of normality but it’ll be a while till we get back to what we would all accept as normal.
It ain’t gone away.

I’ve been banging on about face masks and particularly on public transport since early March. Still amazed that people/media are still finding reasons to doubt the principle of why its such a good idea.

Probably because they don’t want to be seen to be agreeing with Sadiq Khan.

Maybe but the thing I don’t get about Sadiq is that he has been in favour of wearing masks for a while now. Doesn’t he have the authority, as Mayor of London to implement it on TFL?

The same applies to Andy Burnham by the way who is also in favour of wearing them on public transport.

Khan has (had) the power over TfL, but not all the train services coming into London. I also recall he said that he wanted a consistent message to be given during the lockdown, so wouldn’t go against official Government advice. He was therefore lobbying for a change of official approach and wanted to work with the government to achieve it. They ignored his and others’ calls at the time.

It’s not gone away but we are now prepared to deal with it.

Lockdown was to stop the NHS getting overwhelmed. Which has been achieved.

A second wave will probably come, nowhere near as bad as the first, we can deal with it like any other illness.

When I say it’s over, I mean the lockdown. It won’t be coming back, never in a million years.

If he really believed, as I do, that it would make a difference, he should have implemented it. Mayors, including Burnham and Boris, have the best job in the world. Take credit for things that go well and blame the government when things don’t.

We unfurloughed a lad last week, he came in work for the last couple of days and then rang in on Monday with covid symptoms.

He's not a skiving get and was due to have a test on Tuesday, if he's positive and they follow tracing through then we will be shutdown or try to run using less than a handful of people who could come back in.

He uses public transport to get to work and obviously this is an n=1 observation but will this be how we get shafted for the second wave?

Not having a go but should he not have been social distancing if back at work so no need to shut down ? He was furloughed so non essential so why would he be back if can not distance ?

Genuine questions i do not know the rules.

The lockdown is finished as far as nearly everyone under 25 thinks.  Supermarkets round here it is all still being followed. My Mrs has her immunity compromised so is panicking like mad.
it does seem that changes are being driven for political rather than scientific reasons.
Has VanTam done a briefing since he gave his ‘ in my opinion’ answer ?
Football back soon so that is another message that stuff is alright.
Hopefully one quick output from track and trace can be an understanding where the 000s of new infections come from every day.

All fair points and things we've also pondered.

He can't do his job from home and so the government have said you should go back to work if you can't work at home and you can do so safely. There's only him does his job. We've no idea what he might get asked if he's positive so we don't know if it's a case of if he's been anywhere near people or if he'll be asked about people he's touched and so on.

I wouldn't have had him back in but that's a different issue.

thanks for response  hope he and you and your work colleagues are ok

unless he has touched someone or been too close for over 15 minutes it should not matter. Assume your company will deep clean wherever he has touched.

Just had a phone call from NHS England, they've tested my plasma donation from last week, and confirmed that I've definitely had COVID-19, and I've got a very high antibody count. They want me to go and donate plasma every two weeks now. What a ball ache.

When does that kick in? 50k dead in three months and I'm not sure the penny has dropped yet.

The fact what has happened has happened, and there are still people who think 'let's go for it and hope it fucks off by itself' is mind boggling. People who said it could never happen here, now saying it won't happen again.

Thousands of shops, like mine, have had to close (open on the 15th) Thousands of hairdressers closed (open on 1st July earliest) Restaurants, Cafes, etc. No Football, cricket, rugby, horse racing. Cinemas, bowling alleys, theatres. Hotels, guest houses, camp sites.
I may have missed some. This has affected millions of people.
Thousands, maybe more, vulnerable and Older people have been in isolation for many weeks and see no end in sight of their misery. Presumably, you’ve had an easy time of it.

Probably not until the daily reported death figures begin creeping back up to 500 or 600+.

However im still treating it like the first week, being sensible. But if the pubs open, I'm fuckin in there!

You sound a bit like that retard who was interviewed whilst enjoying a beer at the seaside whilst saying nobody should be allowed to enjoy a beer at the seaside.
