Not disagreeing with either of you but if you think folk will adhere to the rules...

You'll never get full compliance short of turning the country into a dictatorship. Think I saw they needed about 70% wearing masks for transmission to virtually stop. Maybe we could get that if people start to see not wearing a mask as antisocial as the Doc said in the video @peelyfeet posted. Who would've thought that smoking could've been tackled so effectively a few years back?

Update from the Kings College Covid App:

https://covid.joinzoe.com/post/data-update-prevalence-covid

Quote

Our new prevalence figures show that 23,459 people in the UK currently have symptomatic COVID and highlight the big regional differences across the UK. While nations like Northern Ireland have almost no active cases, the rates for other English regions, like the Midlands, have been decreasing less steeply.

This estimate is in line with the latest ONS Infection survey in which 25,000 people in England were estimated to be infected with COVID-19 during the two week period that goes from the 14th to the 27th of June.

Well, lets just shoot the fuckers

Fwiw, ive only worn a mask twice

I dont wear one unless im told ive got to, so im definitely a hypocrite

But

If im told to wear one, on it goes

honestly, im wondering hiw folk actually catch it

I live with a health worker and a supermarket worker

Ive been in at least 6 supermarkets a week

I dont was my hands more than a couple of times a day

Ive used sanitiser less than 10 times

And not a sniffle

Its possible ive had ut, but wife hasnt so i think its unlikely

maybe should add, im a twat for keeping distance between me and others

Folk do get the look if they invade my space

I’ve got a box of 50 masks here. Not worn one yet. Not yet seen the evidence that I should or the instruction that I should in my everyday life. See either of them and I will. No doubt. No argument. Loads of fuckers won’t. That’s my point. We are past it.

Some belting house round that area eh. Cut through to go to kearsley from bury other day. Some stunners

I live just off Ringley Road nearly every house along there has been rebuilt, a couple round the corner paid £1.1 million then knocked it down to build a bigger one.

Mrs had an NHS appointment cancelled this morning ..

Cited the reason as the upcoming coronavirus epidemic. Dated yesterday

Masks are mandatory in all shops in Scotland from this Friday.

Colds and normal Flu will be on the rise from  September. Masks should reduce transmission of those too. Plenty folk will be isolating with colds,  thinking they may have covid. As Kent said, there might not be a substantial 2nd wave, but if there is, Autumn is a likely time for it to come back, more time indoors, less ventilation, less sun, schools all back, colder temps, everything viruses like.

Masks definitely reduce the distance and the amount of viral particles you expell into the air, when you breathe, cough sneeze etc. Already proven. It's why surgeons have been wearing them for years.

Theres evidence to show that masks also reduce the amount of viral particles you breath in, if you haven't got it.

Theres evidence to show that the lower the dose of a virus you get (the less particles you breathe in) the higher the chance that you have none or mild symptoms.

If you get a low dose, it gives your immune system more time to produce antibodies.

If you get enough antibodies produced in time, the infection has a higher chance of being killed off in your nose/ throat, before it gets to the lungs.

If you get a really low dose, the viral particles may not even make it into a cell, your snot, nose hairs and saliva can prevent infection.

Lots of benefits.

Lots of folk didn't like it when they passed the law about wearing seat belts. I can remeber my dad saying "what happens if you crash into a lake, you might drown because of the seatbelt" he used to pretend to wear his seat belt, pull it over his body and sit on the buckle...until he had a bump. Hes worn it ever since, not crashed into a lake yet!

So those of us with a nice, dense clod of nasal hair are immune?

I’ll leave the trimmer in the drawer

Stay at home. Protect the NHS ( Nasal HairS) Save Lives.

Thing about coverings (not masks) is that they are washable, so if you've got a few, there's no reason to be wearing the same one days on end.

Probably depends on what kind or level of evidence would convince you?

This is quite a good discussion on how the virus is transmitting, this sort of stuff is enough for me given the credentials of the people involved:

Quote

Both scientists said the evidence has become even more powerful for wearing masks and social distancing. For instance, research shows that about 30 percent of infections are caused by people who do not know they have COVID-19 because they are asymptomatic or their symptoms have not appeared yet.

“So we don’t know who might spread it,” Blumberg said. “We do know social distancing reduces the risk of transmitting the virus by 90 percent, and wearing masks decreases the risk by 65 percent.

“Wearing a mask affects everyone,” he said. “If you care about your family or friends, or if you care about your community, wear a mask.”

The other clincher was the study on the effects of masks in finally bringing the NYC spike down:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/alicegwalton/2020/06/13/face-masks-may-be-the-key-determinant-of-the-covid-19-curve-study-suggests/#528b8a764971

If you want to delve a little deeper there's studies you can look at. The evidence is by no means all one way, there was a counter argument about the danger of a false sense of security affecting behaviour, but the trend is very much towards the pro mask argument.

The dense clod's being immune argument was blown out of the water after the virus struck Yorkshire.

aye, that's what I was thinking, just turn them inside out when they look a bit dirty

You’d think it would be a good idea to give everyone a winter flu vaccine this year rather than just the at risk groups...

1) less flu related cases needing NHS care - helping NHS capacity

2) Reduce the number of people having to self isolate with potential Covid that’s actually just normal flu - Helping the economy

3) good test and learn for a mass vaccination programme ahead of the Covid one next year (hopefully)

This government that is now giving people who can afford to eat in restaurants £10 off their meals is the same government that had to be dragged kicking and screaming into making sure poor children could eat over the summer holidays.

Helping to keep folk in jobs perhaps?

So they can more readily afford to feed their kids.

It's a move to get the industry up and running again which also means encouraging folk out. Especially when so many are nervous.

that covid app, used by kings college, where you update each day/whenever to say how you are feeling, they've done these maps based on their data to show where cases are:

Curious as to where you’d get that level of data
