We have to hang onto the coat tails of the playoffs, get shut of at least 3-4 players and bring some width in and another defensive centre mid & hopefully another striker. I am struggling to be confident he can sort this out hes not flexible at all 3-5-2 and that's it you dont get out of this league playing tipy tapy football you need some toughness in midfield and defence and clog it forward once in a while. ianofcleveleys
With Tobias out the door we'll see what Evatt's about in this window, and whether he's going to stick stubbornly with his philosophy and shape and just try to move some out to bring in better exponents of it, or admit there needs to be a rethink and bring in sorts that would enable alternatives like 4 at the back, wingers and a hold up, physical presence sort of player up front. We only have one way of playing, we have too many of the same types of players and not enough of what we do need, even for the shape Evatt is persisting with. We knocked over a few bad sides who stood off us and admired us, like a Graeme Hick of L2, but have been properly found out last couple of games. Roughed up, bullied and bossed about, even worse this week as I though Vale could play a bit where Walsall were absolute cloggers

January is massive for him. If he can’t see the problems and at least try to address them with limited funds available, I’ll start to worry a bit. I do think he’ll sort it though given time

Can we not just defend? What are Gary O'Neill and Wheater doing these days? They would do the basics all day long even if in Wheater's case he's no pace. It gives me no pleasure to say but I think if we'd gone in 2-0 up we'd have lost that game 3-2 and fans would be spitting blood rather than just frustrated at a bad 2nd half. We were well beaten, not like Walsall just snatched a 2nd goal, 2-1 was a kind scoreline in the end.

Especially with a team with such fragile confodence as ours.
Dimron
it was an ugly game against an ugly team in an ugly ground with ugly management. We've got to learn how to cope with this. Edited December 12, 2020 by Dimron

Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted December 12, 2020 Author Site Supporter Share Posted December 12, 2020 On a different note, have Walsall turned their pitch around? Looked today like the M6 was behind the away end. I always had it in my head the away end was side on to M6. I know Fellows Park was side on. That said, when we lost over xmas around 20 years ago was the last time I’ve been there

They could both have knowledgeable discussions on teams from any division down to NW Counties. I read the autobiography A Breath Of Fred Eyre about 30 years ago, great humour and self deprecating. Loved Fred's enthusiasm and he's passed it onto his slightly more dour/staid son.

Eddie
Tutte runs the show, Tutte takes the pressure off the defence, Tutte constantly shows for the ball, Tutte plays forward passes, Tutte makes the midfield seem far more balanced. Take him out and suddenly there is a massive fucking gap through the middle of our team (Thomason can play a pass but he doesn’t have positional sense yet) and it’s no surprise the defence look shit again, Sarcevic is having to try to play as a defensive midfielder, which he’s not doing a bad job at but it’s far from his natural game, and generally the rest of the team look worse! We need Tutte back ASAP, and until then there is no perfect answer. I’d have White in there personally, or even Jones, with Mascoll in at wing back but nothing is a good option. What is clear to me, and it won’t be a surprise to anyone that was following the thread during the game, is that Crawford needs to fuck off right now. He might have talent, and we might have seen what he can do, but he is a half arsed twat that plays like he’s De Bruyne but fails at almost everything. He’s got to go and Sarcevic has to be put into his best position - if that means White and Jones into centre mid until Tutte is back then so be it, I don’t like the sound of it but I’m convinced that our best player needs to be playing in his best position. Proper pissed me off today, I thought we’d get a result, and the first 40 mins showed that we should have done, but once again we caused our own downfall and had no backbone to turn it around. A bit like when England had Gerrard and Lampard both wanting the same role, you build your team around your best players playing in their best position. For me, our best attacking midfielder is Sarce. He plays that role for me, Crawford needs benching. I wouldn’t fuck him off but I would drop him. Tutte in the Sarce role and sign a destroyer. Surely defensive cloggers who can pass a bit are available at this level?
