Russia have been engaged in a decades long mission to insidiously embed themselves in Western politics, and they've succeeded massively. Brexit was a massive boon for them. Trump is an even bigger one.

I was concerned the peace deal was talking around $100 billion of investment in rebuilding and Ukraine has repeatedly failed EU membership owing to government corruption.

Could this be a sign of them putting their house in order prior to a deal?

He has to live a lot closer to Russia than us so I can't entirely blame him for trying to keep a dialogue, he might not like Putin but the contagion of war needs to be contained.... he also gets cheap gas too.

If you were an Ukrainian and have to tolerate power cuts leading to nightly darkness, cold and bombardment, plus the lucky youngsters are the ones who come back from the front line on a  Blighty Ticket with no legs how would you feel if you found out that the non elected number two has been lining his pockets?

Mr Z came in on a non corruption ticket and has become richer as things progress.

There are a good few few buggers out there who could do with "droning".

Expansion of the conflict can't be any good, Turks will be pissed off worrying about tourism, Kazakhastan already miffed and Putin will now have an excuse for another blockade of Odessa leading to grain shortages in Africa.

Needs to be finished somehow.

Aye, they hit it on the way back.

Obviously, some engine oil etc will leak out, so it's not ideal.

That said, trying to "lay environmental blame" when there is a war going on is bizarre.

The shite littered across Ukrainian towns and farm land will be polluting for many years to come.

I suppose Russian blood may replenish the depleted soil though.

Interesting to hear the Russian language after the late night talks yesterday, trying to drive a bigger wedge between US and Europe, positioning the Europeans as anti-peace. Probably for his home audience but potentially for Trump’s ears as well.

I’m sure their mutually choreographed end-game is for the US to walk away from Ukraine (& hence Europe), welcome Putin back into the international fold, and secure lucrative trade/oil/mineral deals. With Trump it’s only about money. A soulless, morally-bankrupt narcissist.
