The rapidly increasing cases in some Europe has nothing to do with the new variant. Europe weren't so stupid to have a freedom day. No way will Spain overtake UK's infection rate, remember UK have had 35 thousand cases per day for weeks.

If Omicron is as infectious as thought then the restrictions imposed will have little, if any, meaningful impact on the spread. It seems to me like the only choices were a full lockdown or just carry on and see what happens.

If it results in a milder version of the virus it would actually be a very good thing. Apparently it's unlikely, though.

Let me completely reassess my approach to this because I'm now an insensitive twat because mickbrown told me so.
