I think it’s already quite clear it’s milder version based on South African findings, this is all about trying to scare folk into getting the vaccine and booster.

Yes but Southern African countries all have a much younger population and it may not react the same here in older more vulnerable folk. It’s sensible to take precautions until we know more about it.

Funny that you are happy that the 'experts' are right saying it is milder but when the experts advise we need a quarantine on travel you question it. 
 

The evidence that the SA is less dangerous is based on very limited data and the average age of people contracting is lower than you get over here, plus their vaccine profile is different so making decisions based on limited data have to err on the side of caution. If it turns out to be over cautious it can be quickly changed. If we went the other way and the virus got a grip the impact would be far worse.

If it turns out that it is less dangerous than Delta it would be good news as you say.

No evidence with regards to the new variant, words used by politicians "might" .."may", the Government are being over cautious.

And now the booster jab rollout is for anyone over 18 and can be taken within 3 months, this is going to fuel the anti-vax brigade, and tbh, you can't blame them, they are going to be saying it's like these vaccines are not working.

If there wasn't a need for the boosters then they wouldn't be pushing for them though would they.

We all want to keep our freedoms, so playing our part is an absolute no brainer.

One thing is for sure, had we not have had our jabs, then things would be worse on the numbers and/or we'd be in Australia type lockdowns on and off ad nauseam.

Correct, some measure of caution isn't unreasonable. It is the very nature of a new strain that means little is known about it. Therefore my wait until it possibly turns out to be really shitty, before anyone does anything. 

The South Africa lady isn't alone though- a person from the WHO said countries shouldn't punish South Africa for their good work in identifying the strain, which for me misses the point. Its to protect everyone. 

If China had behaved like South Africa initially, the world may have been very different.

They do need to pass legislation again, but it will be retrospective- new restrictions at 4.00am iirc tomorrow. Vote will be later.

From all I have read about previous pandemics, they end when two things happen. Firstly when lots of people have antibodies through infection or vaccination but secondly it's when a virus mutates to survive and as a result of working hard to become ever more transmissable it loses it potency in terms of illness severity. Infections continue but deaths and hospitalisations decline. That's the situation we need to be hoping for now. We're surely due a stroke of luck with this bloody thing at some point!
