Zog1 Posted August 16, 2025 Posted August 16, 2025 (edited) The reality is after the force of nature that was Big Sam left, we were poorly run by Gartside, things that Sam had set up at vast cost, in some cases, like his scouting network, sports science team and academy all atrophied behind the scenes. Maybe we always were poorly run by Gartside and Sam was just good at covering it up. After Sam we got in a host of inexperienced lower league managers were brought in with their own ideas with their own staff. First thing they did with 10's of millions in transfer kitty...bring in Championship players, players from newly relegated teams, players from regular bottom 6/7 teams like Birmingham, Hull, Porstmouth, and Villa. The outcome was inevitable. We become a dumping ground for players, a Championship team in the Premier League. The fact we had future Premier League winner Marcus Alonso in the team in the Championship being kept out the team by out of position Sam Rickets and knackered Paul Robinson, it's enough to make you go mental. I always found it weird we got Sammy Lee and then Megson, then Owen Coyle, not a hint of top flight equivalent managerial experience. Like why Megson and not pick a random 2007 Premier League manager like Martin Jol or Juande Ramos. What was the plan? what did they think would happen? Edited August 16, 2025 by Zog1 Quote

He didn't deserve to play over the two you mention. Him winning the Prem five years later is irrelevant Quote

Sacking the boss and appointing the assistant was the lazy way out for the Bolton board in 1980. They did it with Armfield/Greaves in 74 and it worked. They did it with Charlie Wright after John McGovern in 85, then with Rioch/Todd in 95 and Sam/Little Sam in 2007. It has not happened since and a little bit out of vogue generally nowadays I think. For us I guess you can say it worked twice in 74 and 95 but not the other times. Worked at Liverpool for years up to Souness. Quote

It was clear he had talent though, tbf. Quote

BobyBrno Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but the new bricks have been laid outside the main entrance. Very nice. In addition, you can collect the old bricks from outside the old ticket office windows. Just collected Dad’s. 👍 Quote

Don’t know his name but he was everything I expect from this great club. Went to Lucianos to celebrate. 👍 Quote
