Used to buy died liver sticks in net bags from the market, don't see them anymore. They were ideal. He's doing good, came to my command without any build up at lunchtime, too early to trust him though Quote

Tbf most of it is fields so he’s fine and his recall is good for a pup Is the Halty the one that goes round his snout? Quote

I recall he/she is still a pup, takes time... they eventually go into a teenage phase where they know the rules but try to ignore them. I have always used a simple slip lead with good effect, you can quickly communicate to the dog with gentle tugs and combined with a pocket of treats you're on a win win. Personally I don't believe flippy leads should be used until the dog has earned it. Quote

Seems to pull on way back from a walk with me and a lot of the time on the rare occasion she takes him out. sometimes walks like a dream and shows he knows how to do it. Now and again he’s almost unmanageable. If can sort this out he’s pretty much there in terms of training I would say. Other than he’s no guard dog he’s scared of his own shadow. Ran from a dog on the tele last night Quote

Yeah apparently I'm the reason he pulls Yeah the halty goes round the neck and nose in two loops. Really does work even though I hate putting it on him. Quote

And it will all my fault same as everything Quote

Each to their own, but we did that, and it indeed works, but we didn't want the reward of food to be the main reason for coming back. Esco- she used to put one of ours on a halty, but upgraded to a canny collar. It works in a similar way, but is supposed to be kinder and doesn't put pressure on one particular side. Have a look at both. Quote

only1swanny Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 Cockapoo will come back. Big un will just run if he can see you.. won't leave sight but won't come back Quote
glennboltw Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 I find a head collar called a Dogmatic is the best to use, my Rottie more or less stopped pulling instantly, the only problem I find with the Haltis is thay they can ride up into the dogs eyes..... Take a look at the Dogmatic. Quote

Still have the collie but I quite miss having two dogs (leave the jokes) around the place I’m all for getting a rescue dog but with the sprog our wife ain’t having it so that’s a non starter Ive always fancied a Rottweiler but again non bastard starter. The family we have got from before aren’t in the trade anymore so I really don’t know where to start looking or what to look out for Lab Golden retriever Cockapoo Labradoodle These are what I’m getting the ok for Long time lurker here... was wracking my brains trying to figure out where I'd heard someone was after a dog recently, and then realised it was you on here. Some pals of ours' dog just had a litter of Labradoodles end of December, they're from a really good home and both parent dogs are great. Caved in and getting one ourselves. If you're still in the market for one DM me and I'll dig out their online listing. Quote
Escobarp Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Cheers for the tips chaps I will have a look at them. as an aside he’s been to daycare today. Owner said he took him on a walk into the woods and he walked perfectly and said he was a dream. I didn’t have the heart to say he doesn’t do that for me! Clearly the wee shit is fucking at it Quote

gonzo Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Jumping up is my dogs biggest issue. Again probably all my fault because hes loves a big cuddle and a scrap with his old man when I get in from work. However when he knocks my mother in law over and brakes her glasses its not so fun Likewise he jumps up at random people he sees thinking they want to play and normally scares them to death. Any tips chaps? Ive tried bumming him but it makes him worse. Quote
