The important things here is when it goes to court. The defence may say that the accused “couldn’t help it” due to mental health issues. The prosecution, with the aid of a psychiatrist and psychologist will call bollocks demonstrating the thought processes, planning, etc that went into an attack. Playing the mental health card is getting ever more difficult with better diagnosis

I’ll be following this case because of the above. Interests me just because of my daughter’s chosen career path

Fair enough. I assumed we were about the same age, so shame on me indeed. You could have easily clarified this when I asked "Weren't you a child in the 80's and most of the 90's?", so it wasn't really a 'wild' assumption, seeing as you didn't.

People were expecting it after the last two attacks I think. 

As with the Southport attacker , I’m sure there will be an enquiry showing a series of failures to intervene early. Of course the blame lies with the perpetrator, but it feels like our services can’t keep up. 

No idea how we get to grips with this grim obsession with violent crime. But only ever blaming boat arrivals & Muslims won’t get us anywhere. Which is all the likes of Farage and TR seem to ever focus on.
