Two good passes was enough to prompt that song on some days in the mid 80s! A strange era 83 upto Wrexham 88, we were so desperate to see a glimpse of a shoot of recovery. Quote

Johnnyrotten Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 All those songs we used to sing, quite catchy and easy to join in and sounded great, there were loads more and what do we get now? Wanky Wanderers and Bolton are massive. Sounds so small time. Quote

Usually bellowed by one person, followed by a scattering of other people only to peter out within seconds. It sounds shit and I wish we'd stop singing/shouting it. In fact its the most shit chant of ours I've known in getting on for five decades following the club. You never hear "oh when the Whites go marching in" any more. That used to be an innocent standby song. So did "We are Bolton, super Bolton, from the north ... WEST" I always liked "Wanderers" being sung to the Chameleon song by Culture Club. "Wanna, wanna, wanna, wanna, wanderers" ..... showing my age. Quote

Loads of teams sing similar - Plymouth with green army etc. But Wanky Wanderers is mind numbingly terrible from every single aspect. When the whites go marching in is my favourite along with we're by FAR the greatest team the world has ever seen and they do still get sung occasionally, but no longer guaranteed to hear them most home games like maybe 10 years ago. They both got sung at Wembley which sounded absolutely magnificent. The Culture Club version of wanderers reminds me of that one season sat in Lever End, 83-84, it was massive then. And yes Super Bolton from the north (west) was ace. Its good enough for a load of clubs now including Spurs but we sadly dropped it years ago. Bolton score, Bolton score, once we get one we'll get more... Quote

Bolton score, Bolton score, once we get one we'll get more... "Wanky Wanderers" was adopted to prevent opposing fans singing it at us - successfully. ( same as "chin chinnery " by Burnley ) My pet hate is "Bolton till i die " usually sung by twerps who are seen flouncing out 15 mins before the end when we're losing. Plenty songs/chants have died out - some for obvious reasons - but one i always liked from the dark days & don't hear now, was "we'll support you ever more ", which always used to get belted out defiantly at the end of (mostly) away games, after (mostly) yet another defeat. tomski Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 No issues with any songs unless they say we hate Wigan or anything to do with them. Small time. Quote

But nobody sings it at us now and it just sounds pointlessly wierd singing it against Cheltenham or FGR, they must look at us like we're a bit odd. Bolton's a shit hole another classy number that must really give the players a boost! Yes...we'll support you ever more was a defiant chant, no chance of that making a reappearance when every defeat has everyone (all fans, not just BW) spitting bile at the manager on social media for the line up, formation, tactics, substitutions etc. It was much simpler in the 80s when the same 11 or 12 played every week and there wasn't much to get annoyed about, the manager didn't have a lot of choice and everyone played 4-4-2 with 1 sub allowed. I remember clapping them off after 5-0 defeats at Carlisle and Oxford just thinking they'd tried their best! I could hardly say McGovern shouldn't have picked Graham Bell, he's all we had. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 We're by far... is also a shit one. Lots of teams sing it, yet none are. To be honest, many football songs are absolute shite. Quote
MickyD Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Who’s that comin’ up the hill, boys? The Wanderers are comin’ up the hill, boys. They all laugh at us. They all mock at us. They all say our days are numbered. Born to be a Wanderer, victorious are we So you better hurry up ‘cause we’re gonna win the cup We’re the pride of division 3 Oh, by the way, I think Wanky Wanderers came about as an ironic chant because it had worked so well for Man U when after hearing “Who the fuck are Man United?” all game they started singing it back at us once they took the lead. Isn’t this normally what happens when an early bird finishes? Ive purchased mine already but their is still value in them prices. Even more so in kids tickets. Can’t see too many more being done now though. Quote
