I hope Cheltenham have still to play our rivals, no 19 was a handful & they're a menace from set pieces........nothing like the team we clobbered early season.

But we beat them, if a little unconvincingly.

MOTM   Williams.

Play Derby this weekend.

You're not being harsh, he looked like he'd never faced windy conditions, starting positions constantly too high, caught under the ball, forwards getting wrong side of him. They should have made a lot more of such an occasion early 2nd half when he allowed ball to float beyond him and forward drift beyond him.

The walking forward, stopping then chipping it forward in the air was painful, taking midfield out of the game and inviting them to win it and put us back under pressure. He holds us back when he persists with it.

Seamus would have had a hat-trick.

OMG.

All that matters is 3 points though.

Derby losing is a massive bonus too.

Ups and downs, but more ups than downs these days.

A few more beers now 🍺🍺

UTW.

Sums it up for me. Nothing else matters.

Seen it time and time again across all leagues. Classier team struggling against a bunch of grafters in shite conditions but managing to come away with the points. The measure of an automatic promotion outfit.

I liked the number 8, a 30plus journeyman

Yes, he put himself about and never gave us a minute.

Was a banana skin just waiting to happen tonight and I’m glad we came out of it unscathed apart from Tommo’s usual booking .

Don’t like to dig out players, but the hype that came with the Iredale signing astounds me.

Just never has seemed to be anything other than distinctly average. Doesn’t look particularly comfortable as a left sided centre half or a wing back.

Proper shit out of challenging for the goal conceded at Orient.

Got very lucky tonight when giving away possession in his own half, stopping still to sway the referee. Also wrongly stepped up trying to play offside and stopped while under pressure.

I don’t hate him, but if we go up, I can’t really see him handling the step up. If he was right footed, I’m not entirely sure he’d be playing at this level.

Abysmal game, clearly out on our feet unable to control a game at the minute it's like we're playing without a midfield. Passing is miles off IE standards recently, certainly rid our luck but three points excuses it all. Back three looked intoxicated trying to deal with the aerial balls over the top for most of the game but the two blocks at the end were bits of unbelievable defending. Losing potentially three first teamers is a ball ache especially already needing reinforcements, big week ahead to refuel us within the market

It's a great win. We needed it regardless of how it was achieved.

I've no idea about how to train a football team but from my simple onlooker's perspective I'd do a Cloughie - don't do any training at all this week now. Wrap them in cotton wool, rest them up entirely.

Absentee levels for Saturday and next Tuesday are now at very concerning indeed. If Dempsey and Thomason are both out we need CMG back in that squad and we're going to have to have Khumbeni in and around it. Defensively we look threadbare.

Thomason will at least play at Blackpool so we can rest one of the others - hopefully with Morley and CMG.

Playing Cheltenham was never going to be pretty, it never is at home to these. The wind made it even more of a lottery.

Great win in the grand scheme of things. Doesnt look like I missed a classic either

I know CMG has only just come back but he needs to show his worth now, we paid a fee for the lad let’s see the best from him

Correct. He's got a great opportunity to stake a claim now with so many games coming up. All hands to the pump

Do you mean the “straight ball” from Santos that resulted in the only and match-winning goal tonight?

Did it? I’m talking about the one into feet that he tries, not the aerial one that has less impact of them breaking on us.

I genuinely don’t know the answer by the way, my recollection of the goal is a bit of cock up from their defender, it bouncing around when Vic challenges and then he’s through on goal - I can’t actually remember the bit before it.

There was one time in the second half where Santos played it and we did actually manage to just about get out and it put us on the front foot. It was also very last minute and was a rare occasion vs the other times it causes us big bother but maybe that was the example that shows why he keeps persisting.

Anyway, one of those that’s maybe just an irrational bugbear but I feel like I lose a year of my life every time he plays it!

An observation from my seat in WSL, the solid gates in the North/East corners were shut. I assume this is to try and mitigate the swirling winds as much as possible.

I was in line, it went through his legs!

Campo was a master back in the day.

The linesman on our side (WSL) gave the offside immediately; probably helped by a few thousand supporters behind him giving their encouragement. I’m not sure if the player who put the ball in the net was off but one of theirs definitely was in between the ball and Baxter. The ref came over and I must admit, I thought he was going to overrule the linesman.

Sure someone said in the Carlisle thread that Dempsey would probably be “injured” for the game.

You’ve see that offside completely differently to how I saw it Micky. I’m WSU, just to the right of the half way line and from what I saw the lino didn’t actually put his flag up, the red then blew his whistle and gave a free kick, pointing at their player that he’s called offside. At that point, with players looking confused, lino puts his flag up but even that looked like he was following orders rather than believing it. Ref tells him in his ear that he’s right, I reckon Lino then questions it which is why ref comes over - at that point I was convinced that Lino would confirm with the ref that he’s got the wrong player. They seemed to go back and forth a bit and neither seemed sure of what they’d just given and why, which concluded in the ref looking to save face and basically just said come on let’s get on with the game.

Ultimately, it’s a huge let off for us, so whether it was an incompetent ref or Lino - thanks very much!

That's how I saw it.  Flag didn't go up and we were all saying "has the ref given the offside there?".  Linesman then put it up, pretty sheepishly I imagine. Having seen it a few times I still can't see an offside.

If Evatt has anything about him, he will ring the FA this morning and demand that Cheltenham be awarded the 3 points.

Disgusting performance and if we don’t add 7-8 players by next week we’ll be lucky to finish mid table.

Baxter just got lucky because the wind blew every shot straight at him and Victor was clearly trying to square the ball and it spooned into the net.

I have returned my season ticket.

Santos was awful today, and I am usually a massive fan. Toal not much better. Iredale by giving silly free kicks away even worse.

ignoring the slow play from the back we just did not challenge for some 'hoofs' from the back and when we did it was clumsy and indecisive. School boy errors  like letting the ball bounce rather than clearing it just let them scrap for the ball and they won lots of second ball.

I have been a supporter of Iredale as left of the three at the back but he has been poor last 2 games and Toal just took too long on the ball too many times.

One positive was that in second half big Vic and Dion started to look like they were playing well together rather than 2 individuals.

Tbf with Ireldale he was in a right old tussle with that little forward.

He was giving as good as he got but decided to throw himself to the floor on numerous occasions.

Its like they wanted to mix it but didnt quite have the blokes to do it.

The ref will have spoken to the linesman on their headsets to check if such and such was offside. Linesman will ask if he was interfering with play. Ref says yes and flag goes up. Think the ref went over just to double check.

I’m suprised at the level and inconsistency of some of the in-game and post game criticism.

Saturday - lost, we were poor, didn’t match the opposition, individuals not doing their jobs, criticism deserved

Last night, battled, worked hard, got the crucial goal, found a way (not the usual way) in shit awful conditions and we WON!

Yes it’s a forum and just because we won doesn’t mean we can’t debate the game and individuals blah blah blah. But some of the negative over-analysis of players passing, abilities and application in last last nights 50mph winds, as if we all of a sudden have become a bunch of underperforming pre-Madonna’s, is way over the top.

Think some need a reminder of our current league form. We’ve won 5 out of the last 6.
