When Rioch came to Bolton in 1992 we won three of our first give games then drew 1 and lost 5 of the next six. A very similar thing happened when Big Sam arrived in 1999. It is very early days and SS

For those slagging off SS, you are barking up the wrong tree. We can only even get in to the foothills of judging the guy after he has had a transfer window. He has been dealt a talented but very one-

I think Evatt was spot on when he said whoever manages this bunch won’t get any more out of them. Just embarrassingly awful.

Yeah, but he signed them all 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't think we need a mass clear out but we need a few no nonsense players

R/b and l/b.2 central midfielders

A fucking speed merchant

1 target man

All loans plus Jones, Santos,Tomo and Sheehan gone

Gives SS 6 places to make his mark

rest can absolutely fuck off. It needs a proper clear out, new methods, new mentality, physicality, leaders, and most importantly SS’s men.

We’re stuck with most Baxter and santos jones will  be off rest are under contract for another 12 months victor will be injured for 6 months of is probably tutu as well forester , Gomes , Johnston , southwood will sit there’s out leave on a free if there not offered a extension . rest have 3 years to run .
clear out won’t be straight forward . Oh and Dan will be returning from .Is loan injures as well

He has money to spend this summer.

Might take more than one summer window to get us challenging again

Funny how we see things. I’ve got Forrester as our best centre back (or certainly potential to be) but he keeps getting fucking injured. That alone might be reason to get rid but I like him, I think he’s a proper defender.

Anyway, reading it back I think the fact that I could only get to 4 players that I’d definitely want to keep is probably my main point. People will disagree with with views on certain individual players but I can’t imagine anyone has a view that the squad is fine and just needs 1 or 2 additions.

Ive no issue with Forrester

Does seem to like an injury but hes a good player when fit

If we do go 4 at the back, I put him behind Forino and Toal right side

Thats bollocks

We are gonna finish top 8

Thought dempsey did alright when he came on today. Seemed to want it at least

Probably fair that, challenge is on the left side, in a three or four, we've been weak there for a couple of seasons

I know it happens to all teams, but christ, we must be due a season with some luck on the injury front.

I go back and forth on Toal. On his day he seems like a top defender in this league, but too often he’s weak as piss. Big cart horse league one forwards target him, they pull off onto his side and long balls are aimed at him because although he’s tallish, he gets blown over in a strong wind.

It’s the same with Johnston. Can be great but too often he’s bullied.

Both of them on paper seem like good L1 defenders that you’d want to keep, but they’ve been part of the same problem for all too long now and I’ve no confidence that it would be any different next season. Look great in the easy games but get bullied and come up short in big / tough games - in fact, you could almost say that those 2 reflect the whole team (and you can maybe add Sheehan to that too).

No it's not.

We shouldn't be looking at this realistically.

Aparrently we should all be of the opinion that SS should get automatic promotion from L1 next season and if he doesn't he gets potted.

What should the expectation be?

We did the slowly, slowly bit. Mid-table, lose in the playoffs, finish higher but still lose in the playoffs. Now we're going to be mid-table again. How many years does Schumacher get at it?

Besides, your opinion of this team is that the players are all quality. So it should be a piece of piss.

Way too many in the squad who flatter to decieve unfortunately.....I was one of the most enthusiastic about signing Sheehan and had high hopes about McAtee but they generally just play on the periphery and produce little. I'm still a big fan of GT for his honesty and effort but we need far better if we are to compete at the top next season. The January loans have been appalling and Jones and Santos must have been covered in bird shit when they came off today.

SS has some serious work to do in the summer......the hardest part will be trying to get bodies out of the building.

Id guess, guess obvs, that the 2 of em would be plenty goof enough in 44 fucking 2

Where have I said that?

There's players I like, I think Schumacher is (or has been up until today!) getting a better tune out of them than Evatt.

But I think you're mistaking the fact that I don't come on here and slag them off.

..And my loyalty in following them home and away.

.. And my hope that we can still squeeze into the play-offs

..as some kind of verification that "all the players are quality so it should be a piece of piss"

I think we just have a vastly different perspective of what supporting BWFC is all about.

And anyway, why change anything after Tuesday was the point

As previously stated, normally you pick up on my posts from me, there was one change!

SS made a point recently, about so many of the players being intelligent.

Could it be that they think about things a bit too much at times, analyse their colleagues a bit too much, and possibly lack that up and at 'em spirit that a more compliant, less complicated character my have?

A sort of player that does what he's told, with passion, respect and has a more basic philosophy on the game.

Something in the make up of the squad isn't right; it's not just a matter of ability.

And except Birmingham most of those teams will still be in our league the season after next.

As for this bit, you must be one of those posters who puts their blinkers on without considering a different perspective, as I've already directly responded to one of your posts about this.

"Let’s hope there’s a balance between having high expectations and  aspirations (I’m not against that) but also a realism that not everything will fall into place for a seamless return to the championship."

So if I need to explain further, we need some context to next season before we judge SS

Of course the expectation should be promotion.

But there's all kinds of mitigating factors that will be at play before just simply saying he goes if we don't get top 2

I don't know if it's that but I do think they think they're better than they are

I know you've mentioned a few times about the folk behind the scenes ready to stick money in.

Someone else a couple of weeks ago mentioned its easier at this level to spend than in division 2, something to do with how ffp works 🤷‍♂️.

Maybe they'd be better shoving some money in this summer and having a go at it.

(Think the amount we spent this year was a lot for us mind, just a shame who was spending it 😒)

I think (but can’t say for sure) that the potential to make more from their investment increases if we make it to the championship. A premier league club offers huge returns whereas big investment at this level only gets moderate returns at championship level.

I can only go off what I was told (by one of the clubs most senior ‘employees’) that they’ll invest big should we go up. However, SS will have a decent budget this time around. His challenge will be moving on high earners who are on good contracts. I expect Lolos and Randall are the biggest problems, with Sheehan and maybe McAtee a couple of others. Some out of contract aren’t an issue, and others still have plenty to offer despite today’s showing.

Yeah, in div. 4. The pair of them have shown that they’re not good enough for a promotion winning team in our league.

Really don't know what to make of it all

I get new manager bounce and lots of credit to SS (and JD) for making a team that could play well, win and adapt, and come from behind, and all that

On the back of the run and form up to Brum play offs were well on

There were plenty opportunities in those games for the players to wilt if that's the issue

But they didn't

Then it's all just gone to shit and we're back to playing evatt formations and football

But

The spirit was there v Wigan

The result was there v Bristol

The effort was there v Rotherham

Then today

Absolute dog wank

For me it's difficult to pinpoint the issue

For All the talk of a clear out anyone under contract will be here next season you'd have thought

So if it's a mentality issue that is going to linger

SS gets the summer and the opportunity to bring in new faces

But on the evidence of his reign so far I've no idea what to expect

The recruitment is going to have to be the best window we've had in a while

Seems reasonable.

Probably nothing but coincidence, but did it go to ratshit around the time they announced the appointment of the director of football?
