Look In the 70s Ian Greaves had a great team, nice football and really battlers but it took 4 attempts of oh so close seasons to get us up.

If he stays it then depends on what he's learnt. I suspect, sadly, he'll have learnt f'call as the call outs through the season have been dismissed as heresy.

73% possession, when 66%of that is passing it to & from the back 3/5. The machine-driven substitutions so predictable you'd think it was a rule. Falling out with players who dare wonder about a tactic. Being too easily phased by any opposition who press us. Allowing a mood whereby we are defeated before we step on the pitch against certain clubs. Almost never winning the big games.

But these are fundamentals for him. If still here none of that is going to change. So next season will be the same, but more teams wise to us.

Now, we came 3rd & really we blew top two. That is not a poor team or outcome in reality. But it's clear we, as a club, need to be in the Championship.

I will never, ever, forgive that his stubborness meant that the best player we've had in a decade could not be fitted in. Letting Dapo go ... & for so little ... will rankle with me always & evidence of IE's lack of flexibility.

Probably something to do with the tropophobia our players were suffering from on Saturday

It's an easy go for me 

dress it up whichever way you want, 3 goes in this league is failure, last season was the one, we massively fucked up, the league next season is much tougher, bookies already priced us bigger than last season 

if he couldn't get us up this season, he for sure won't be the coming season

Great post, highlighting the major issues with Evatt.

Add to these flaws, the amount of money that we've spent in the last two years.

They're his players, his team, that he's built over years to carry out his game plan, and it's proved not to be good enough.

I'm really not sure he's said that. Reading the article, it's framed that way by Iles, not Evatt. 

Imo he's just responded to pointed questions by saying he'll be looking at everything (in terms of what went wrong and how to improve rather than his own position).

Of course he could mean it the way you interpret it (and Iles frames it) but I don't think it's definitive.

Right, I've been thinking about this and reckon if IE stays, we'll see quite a big change in formation.

It's no secret Evatt pipes off Pep so could see us going with a back 4 of fluid centre halves - Iredale, Johnstone, Toal and Forrester.

In midfield, 2 sitters who can break play up and pick a pass - I'd sign Connell to play alongside Thomason then 1 further forward. Not sure whether that's Dempsey or sign someone.

Front 3 of Charles in the middle with Vic and Collins either side.

If there are offers, Santos, Jones and Sheehan can go. Sheehan is great when he has time but totally ineffective in games where he's marked out of it. If teams go man for man on him, he should pull out wide to take his man with him and have someone else drop in the middle

That's the only scenario that I can envisage if we're to get promoted.

However, he's shown no inclination to change his methods and has been caught out again and again.

Great game plan from you, but atm, I can't see Evatt agreeing with you!

In recent months managers from Derby, Portsmouth, Shrewsbury & Oxford have come out and identified the way to stop us, no coincidence they all said the same

for me, Dempsey like Morley aren't good enough for a team aiming for top 2

happy for them to come off the bench, but would be looking for 2 new faces in midfield so it's stronger than it was last season

hopefully Paris is one of them, if not, it'll be tough to find someone to fill his boots

but Dempsey is a step backwards for me

Personally Dempsey is miles ahead of Morley (that’s one player who’s gone backwards)

what I will say for IE even though some signings are questionable he’s found some good loans over the years

You do realise that we  can’t just think up a number and someone will pay it don’t you?

We got what someone was prepared to pay for a player that wanted to go. 

 

I know Marc iles  gets some stuck on here and he as to walk a fine line with the club and players but he as wrote a few honest articles last couple of days is players rating giving 3 ect and the latest one basically pointing out the amount of times the players have bottled it when it’s counted .

But he pushed him out. So keen that he didn’t get best value. He'd had him playing a role he was unsuited to & then had him playing a bit part. He had not "wanted to go" until half a season's mis-use.

He then wasted the money he got on a player with half the ability. Frankly if that's all he could muster he'd have done better keeping him.

I think the club will probably stick with Evatt, but whether Evatt wants to stick around only he knows.

If Evatt does move on though, I would go for Gary Rowett, he's a really experienced manager and he's managed the majority of his career in the Championship, he's available too.

i loved dapo, both as a player and what we know of him as a person but evatt tried all sorts to get him into the team

id also add if he was 'forced out' they wouldnt speak so highly of each other

why is it folk have to make shit up when all the evidence contradicts it

as for his replacement, was it victor?

seeing as by many reports we couldve doubled our money in january, hes hardly a disastrous signing, regardless of your opinion of him

No he didn't. He wouldn't change his system to fit in the most talented player in our squad - the only game changer that we had.

He ripped Ipswich to bits at the start of last season, probably one of the best individual performances that I've seen in the last 4/5 years but he was then wasted because of Evatt's stubbornness or, more basically, an inability to manage his best resources.

I like the sound of that back 4 and formation, but we're desperate for some pace out wide in the front 3. Maybe Mendez Gomez could do one of the wide roles but I'd prioritise getting a decent winger in, as well as a proper defensive midfielder who can tackle

He's at his best for me when he lets loose in articles like that, as he has done when we've had a massive failure in the past.

Fair play to him for responding to some of the follow up comments people are making as well. I simply don't believe there's some sort of conspiracy going on to keep the players quiet etc and at least he's putting people straight on that. He'll probably get bored of giving people the time of day who are suggesting the players don't care though.
