As much as I don’t really agree with you linking it all back to ‘wokeism’, as I think he just reflects the way of the world today rather than anything exaggerated, I do think you’re bang on with your overall assessment of him, poor manager tactically, proven loser in big games and just generally flat and yes, you knew what was coming.

Imagine coming into this tournament (or hopefully the next World Cup) with Mourinho in charge! Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a bit outdated from a club point of view but in terms of preparing a team both tactically and mentally for tournament football, especially with his link to England from spending so long here etc, I think someone with his nouse and charisma would have us in a completely different place. It must be shit for the likes of Bellingham, Foden et al going from training under the likes of Pep and Ancelotti every day to turning up and having to listen to fucking Southgate - its no wonder they look so flat!

Thing is, if someone lacks charisma but has done the bizzo then players will listen with respect. Fashion sense, political leanings etc are all mere bagatelles as well. Fact is he had three years at Boro which saw them relegated. In itself that's not a badge of dishonour for a club that size, if you then went on to spend the next four years building success somewhere else. Bring a giant back into the prem, do an Emery and get an unexpected CL place, deal with adversity in some cup games and battle through to an unexpected FA Cup win. Etc. What did he do for those next four years? To quote wiki: he had " four years out of football".

That lack of experience cannot be bought through international management. There's not enough games - at all, never mind meaningful ones (ie not friendlies or half the qualifiers which will be against tinpot teams).  It's not even his fault really; he simply doesn't have to "been there, done that" as a manager to gain players respect and awe and to deal with adversity in real time. Still, on £4M a year I doubt he gives a toss.

'Liked' your post.

I do not deny for one moment that I despise the 'wokeism' he has displayed. I find myself waiting for them to lose after his "If you don't agree with me on (George Floyd, LGBTQ alphabetti spaghetti, womens football, blah, blah, fucking blah) then you are on the losing side" comment. Waiting so I can say "Who is on the losing side now, cunt?".

My main beef with the negative twat came after losing the final on penalties to Italy. His negativity cost us that trophy. We should have gone for the Italian jugular after the early Shaw goal. Two down and their heads would have gone. Believe me, I really do understand the Italian psyche through marriage, work and hobbies for a very long time. Holding them out for 87 minutes is not an easy task although Spain managed it last night against a weaker Italian team than we faced four years ago.

All the great coaches (including BSA) talk about fractions of percentages making the difference at the very highest levels. I won't accept that all this virtue signalling dogshit does not have some sort of effect greater than fractions of one per cent. I want to see an England manager 100% committed to the cause and prowling the touchline like a hungry lion. Not another fucker sunbathing in a suit (which we BWFC fans have become accustomed to) and being more concerned about empty gestures than the actual job they are supposed to be doing.

As an aside, there's a lot of excitement all around me at the moment. Cars honking horns all night, flares and fireworks going of, merchandise for 'La Seleccion' selling like hot cakes. Personally I suspect that they are peaking too early but I have been wrong many time before. Still believe that France or Germany will lift the trophy.

The key thing for me is who replaces the FA's puppet? Not another one like him FFS. Setting up 'not to lose' and displaying sensitivity to every fucking minority which has a gripe will mean that I will again struggle to get excited about the next 2 or 3 major competitions from an England perspective. Southgate has stolen this from me.

Some good analysis by world cup winner Emanuel Petit and European Cup winner Graeme Souness here on retard radio.

Just let our midfielders be midfielders.

That performance has really pissed me off. Southgate has gone down in my estimations.

It’s a massive job from here.

My attentions turned to the cricket for some national sporting pride. Great effort yesterday from Jack Draper this week at Queens too. Should be some decent efforts at the Olympics soon.

Need another outlet cause I’m not investing too much emotional energy into this lot as I’m now fairly sure they are going to fall well short.

Cue being back interested and football’s coming home this time next week 😂

Did you see James McClean’s analysis? 😁

This week has been a brilliant celebration of sport, don't let England bring down the mood 😀

There haven't been enough hours in the day to take in all the quality sport this week.  The Euros have been fantastic, the colour, atmosphere and positive attitude of fans and players generally.

I've also enjoyed every bit of the US Open golf, Royal Ascot (costly mind), Yorks v Lancs T20 (poor performance but decent spectacle), England's T20 WC games and a bit of Queens tennis (I love the majors but the lesser tournaments are a bit irrelevant; not long till Wimbledon though).

Of all the players and teams across a range of great sports, Southgate and England seem the least tuned in, up for it, entertaining, vibrant.  Its like they are playing unenthusiastically with brakes on where everyone else is accelerating along in the fast lane.

But they aren't going to stop me enjoying the rest of the tournament and other sports!

Don’t understand why the BBC are going OTT with Rooney as a pundit.

World Class footballer.

Awful broadcasting skills and virtually illiterate.

Focus on Plymouth.
