Dimron Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 What did they expect from an Argie Ref the day after Hand-of-God Day? Quote
bolty58 Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Just now, Lt. Aldo Raine said: It was a clear-cut penalty as well 😁 Makes it even sweeter. They'll be fucking moaning about it for a good while now. Nothing like as long as they have celebrated Maradona's cheating. Quote

Tello’s selection for the tournament is part of a collaboration between Uefa and their South American counterparts Conmebol. By extension, Italy’s Maurizio Mariani is taking charge of matches at this summer’s Copa America. Quote

wiggy Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 You’d be gutted not to get the penalty but should never have come to that. You’re clean through. Go and score instead of trying to earn yourself a penalty Quote

Yet ingored that those results needed a +7 goal difference switch for the Jocks to go through. And you ”ingored” the fact that it didn’t need a +7 goal difference ‘switch’ and that a win would be 99% likely to be enough as one of the best third placed teams, regardless of the result in the other game. As it is, Clarke got exactly what he deserved for his negative attitude. And as this is a complete continuation of the play off disappointment, I’m quite happy to not watch another game of football until August. Quote
gonzo Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 That was 100% a pen. How is VAR not pulling that? Quote

Kind of typified the performance really that Armstrong should have gone towards goal and got clipped rather than end up in a wrestle. Only watched a bit of the post match stuff but Andy Gray (I know), Ashley Cole and Joe Cole* were all convinced it was a penalty. * Only the big guns on beinsports3. Quote
Stig Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 5 minutes ago, gonzo said: That was 100% a pen. How is VAR not pulling that? Never a penalty. Armstrong makes the most unnatural jump to his left to get in front of the defender who then can do nothing but collide into him. It's a foul by Armstrong. Imagine there's no defender there, Armstrong actually won't be able to catch up with the ball running through towards the goal after that movement. I was embarrassed for him in honesty. That was a decent chance to win it for Scotland and he chose to try and win a penalty instead. Pathetic Quote

Same on the BBC punditry panel - they all thought it was a stonewall penalty. Crazy. Anyway, Scotland got what they deserved in that game. Hungary were by far the more attacking team. Scotland can't turn up to big tournaments thinking aiming for nil Nils every game is good enough Quote
London Wanderer Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Gutted. Wanted them to go through. But they weren’t good enough tonight, first half was absolutely awful. We will be out with a similar whimper in the knockouts unless something clicks into gear. And it was definitely a penalty. Without VAR most refs would give it. Quote

jayjayoghani Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 They were saying on the Guardian football podcast that Scotland could qualify with a draw, and hence 2 points if 4 other results happened (from other groups). One was England beating Slovenia 3-0 for instance. So I'd lump on those 4 results now 😆 Quote

It would not surprise me if they faltered at the next step though. They must be utterly fucked after an effort like that. Not seen the best of the Germans yet. Their campaign is developing nicely. Biggish Dave Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Delighted they got what they deserved. They always want us out so bollocks to them. Hungary had far more intent in winning even though they were also average at best. Toodle pip Quote
