I've gone from thinking we have the players to win it, to waiting for us to get beat Surely the Swiss will finish us off and put us out this strange footballing misery I mean we topped the group and got through the next round But it's been painful But seems the teams who could properly bum us are on the other side of the draw So it's all becoming a long drawn out tournament It's probably going to come home Quote
gonzo Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 All the euphoria of the goal apart. What exactly was the idea of putting Ivan Toney on with 30 seconds to go? Quote

So that he'd be up to speed to set up the winning goal at the start of extra time. Tactical genius is Southgate. Quote

Gareth, sorry Sir Gareth knew we would bag a late equaliser, Toney was put on to provide the assist. Trust the process. It’s coming home Edited July 1, 2024 by royal white Quote
deeane Koontz Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Still stunned at how shocking we are. You have to go out of your way to be this shit. Quote
Pablo Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 That England shirt turns the players to mush, I recon its all the cavemen little clubber gammons hounding them and constant booing and moaning, most of them don't even know half of the England squad and know very little about the top leagues or even understand top level fotball.....most get their opinion from TalkSport and The Sun headlines. L/H White Posted July 1, 2024 Author Posted July 1, 2024 hopefully that's the moment the sparks our tournament to life gonna be an interesting team selection anyway, with guehi and tripper potentially out walker CB Trent RB? does he stick saka at LB? Quote
Casino Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 i though eze looked more comfortable than anybody else at LB also, while im no fan of arnold, why would you not have him on rather than saka? or were we all subbed out? Quote
wiggy Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Lots of the England player / manager interviews have been a bit strange this tournament. But the post match interviews last night led me to believe there is something very wrong in the squad. Southgate calling out Toney because apparently he was unhappy about being brought on when he was. Why would he volunteer that himself? Just strange Quote

Just strange hadn't seen that, but yes, very odd Bellingham saw his arse a bit too having a pop at the fans Kane the other night saying players didn't know who was doing what is this GS' was of saying here that I'm the manager and I know what I'm doing? “I had belief we would get a goal. The boys that came on, Ivan (Toney) played a big part – he was disgusted at me putting him on at that moment. There's no question he was pretty disgusted when I put him on with a minute to go," the England boss said. "I think we've made up now. He's had a big impact in the second goal as well. You put a sub on at that time, it is a final throw of the dice. I completely understand it. I don't like putting a player in that position. Quote
Mantra Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Was a weird thing to say, doesn’t reflect well on either of them… seems like the subtext he is going for is, “you all laughed at me (even the players), you’re not laughing now are you?” Quote

Just strange Gareth Southgate has joked that Ivan Toney was 'disgusted' with his decision to bring him on in the 94th minute of Sunday's dramatic victory over Slovakia. Quote
1969 Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 One thing I noticed was at full time when Southgate tried talking to the players a lot of them looked like they didn't give a fuck what he was saying as in looking anywhere but at him Quote
Traf Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Maybe IT was disgusted that Gareth hadn't made the switch(es) much earlier. Picking essentially the same team four games in a row and refusing to change it at HT yesterday just smacks of an arrogant "I know more than you" attitude. I also though that once Guehi was ruled out of the next game, 3 minutes in, that another centre half should have got minutes. Quote
Wanderlust Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 The world knows that the late substitutions were a desperate throw of the dice. Southgate knew at the time that his plan hadn't worked and Toney knew he hadn't been part of that plan. He has a bench full of talent raring to go and a starting team that has look jaded from the first game. The starting line up for the Switzerland game is going to be very interesting. Any chance of Southgate starting the game without Saka, Foden and Trippier? Can't see it although all 3 looked like they need a break and may be more effective coming on as subs if required. Conversely, how do you drop Palmer and Eze etc? Those that have come on in the games so far have all made some sort of impact - bar Gallagher who has been plugging holes. Quote
