RIP 😢

Sad news.

 

RIP Greavo. Loved the lad. Hard as nails - if he stayed down he was seriously hurt.

Never forget whingers screaming for him to get up front in the Armfield era because he had the number 9 on his back.

A true legend for me. Was in some of the earliest BWFC teams I watched.

RIP. The first player I remember being a hero to both me and my dad.

Gutted. Only saw him a few weeks ago having a bit of lunch with JT. Had a good chat and thought he looked well. Lucky enough to see most of his career and also call him a friend. RIP Greavo.

Was very lucky to have known Roy over the years, one memory was him calling the 3-0 before we smashed Preston in Cardiff. Top guy. RIP.

Always remember him being number 4. Played against him a couple of times when I was younger and he had retired. He was still good then.

Upset at hearing this, he’s part of my early history with the club.

He could play in many roles, probably to his detriment, but always gave 100%, wherever he played. 

My old MD (MG) was in partnership with him and Sam at Monteraze, and I had a lovely chat with him at MG’s funeral, a few years ago.

Sad day for the club. RIP, Greavo.

Always remember him wearing No4 for some reason not 9.

Anyway was in the team when i can 1st remember being introduced to the delights of BWFC.

Played over 500 games iirc.

Funnily enough, I saw this old photo of him the other week and thought that he looked pretty cool and carefree in his happy place.

Fabulous player , being home grown talent , he sometimes took some stick , which always seems the Bolton way ...

 

I recall Malcolm Allison waxing lyrical about him.

Any Christmas fixture the terraces always sang ...

" Greavo , Greavo , Greavo , Greavo , born is the king of burnden park " ... To the tune of the "First Noel".

Was it Huddersfield away in the FA Cup , he wore a party hat from the crowd to take a corner .

A club legend, like others on here, he was an early hero of mine in the early 70's, always gave his all, RIP Greavo

Brilliant player for us and scored some great goals , i remember him being a proper tough tackler never backing out of a challenge.

Thoughts with his family and friends.

Never saw him play, but heard plenty of plaudits.

Roy was a proper tough tackling CM and had an eye for goal 1 of my favourite players in the 70s RIP a true Wanderers  legend.

Really sad news, a true BWFC legend not just on the pitch but off it.  He scored the first goal that I celebrated properly, I knew it was a big goal whereas before that I hadn't really tuned in to the importance of games.  It was around winter of 77-78 v Spurs in Div 2, top of the table clash, about 33k on, had 0-0 written all over it till Greaves slotted home at the Embankment End in the last couple of minutes, the place went mad.

One of my early heroes was Roy and the backbone of the team for many, many years. RIP

He was a mainstay of the 1st Wanderers side I went to watch, around the time he moved from no9 to no4 I think. He chipped in with loads of important goals but it's the Spurs one I remember best.

Very sad to hear this. Was a big part of the very first Bolton team I remember. Missing out on promotion in 75/6 and 76/7 meant be probably hit the first division a bit later than he should have done. A big part of that 77/8 promotion season.

He had a bit of everything as a midfielder as I recall though people a bit older than me will be able to recall better. 

I hope we commemorate him really well. Nearly 500 games for the club, a stalwart in the truest sense. I'm sure Big Sam, Paul Jones, Peter Nicholson, Peter Reid, Neil Whatmore and the other great players of that era have loads of good Roy Greaves memories to impart.

 

never appreciated him tbh, as he was owt but flash and didnt stand out, but i do remember my dad being a fan

said if greavo played well, we played well

 

like others, came up against him on burnden 5s and him and some owd bloke (prob 10 years younger than i am) with a belly with knee nack were proper footballers

i saw that - did they get to the bottom of where it was?

Sad news. I Remember watching Roy in the 70s, from the Manny road terrace.

I think he had Montezumas for a while just up the road from BP.

Used to watch from the Lever End first off but I know him from Monteraze and went on a few trips when he did away coaches.

Roys family used to have the Rose and Crown in Farnworth as I recall.

Sad news. Stalwart of the great 1970s sides when I was a nipper.
