The statements attributed to George are hardly news though are they?

no

but what is, is that a squad member has come out and said it's complicated and that they currently lack confidence and belief in it

they are being told this is the way they must play, "non-negotiable"

when it goes to plan, great, Oxford 5-0

when it doesn't, Oxford 0-2, they can't figure out why, they come out and say "we don't know what happened"

and you've got Des Buckingham doing a video explaining, quite simply, what he did to nullify us

so seems everyone now knows what they need to do

but we're not for changing

so it's not working

and it's draining the players confidence and belief

and that was very evident on Saturday

Without a certain degree of pragmatism, no one tactic, no matter how good the players, will always be successful.  I remember the 2nd Wigan game as us trying to conduct some bold experiment while they were just here to win a football match.

Several Oxford fans after their 5-0 defeat at ours were calling for Buckingham's head. Look how he's turned that around by setting up his teams and tactics when they're facing superior opposition.

At that point, they're not superior opposition.

Not saying its impossible, but having watched our games this season where just having a half chance feels over optimistic, I genuinely don't know what that's based on.  That's not being pessimistic, I'm just talking as someone comparing our form with Reading's.  They aren't Port Vale or Cheltenham, they've drawn at Brum, beat Wigan and Charlton, they will be stronger and faster than us like everyone else we've played.  Where do we see the next goal coming from?

It’s based on us not being a complete basket-case.

I still think the football we are capable of playing, the players we have got and playing in familiar surroundings at home gives us the advantage over a club that is in disarray and potential regelation candidates.

Yes I understand the case against this, especially in current form after Exeter and  Huddersfield, but even if Evatt stayed in charge all season we’d probably avoid relegation meaning we’d have won games like this at home.

For me we could keep Evatt, potentially address this dip in form to finish mid-table.

But and the big and crucial BUT, is that we all know now that come the next big game (Stockport, Birmingham etc) we’d revert to type.

A new approach, manager and regime is IMO our best chance of getting back in the hunt for promotion.

So let’s take a win this weekend and have it for what it’s worth, 3 points better off than we are today.

Yes that it new.

But it is not working because they are being asked to do something beyond their level of ability so the question is whether or not they can find a successful way of playing that they can manage.

Trouble is on the whole it works.

We didn't not go up because we play this particular brand of football.

We failed to go up because we are cack at playing anything else.

And this season we are cack at this too.

Not sure I follow you, could be my wording. I was referring to Oxford performing well in the play offs and since in the Championship, when collectively they were facing supposedly better players and teams.

Mate, I hope you're right but they were in the exact same position last season when we played at theirs.

Fans protesting, the lot.

We know what happened.

It doesn't matter what state the other team are in, we need to get our heads from up our arses and compete.

Reading that interview (and I don't really care when it was from or by whom), says an awful lot to me.

It's simple.

I think we have some talented players but absolutely zero physicality.

We're playing walking football whilst the other lot are running around.

Like I say, I hope you're right 🙏

It is indeed and suggests that if Evatt thought that tweak to the system was the answer over Summer he didn't understand the question.

His protests last weekend about (I might not have this word perfect) 'people want us to change how we play but we haven't the physicality, we've recruited to be technical' only confirmed that for me. He either didn't see that as an issue in Summer or just didn't want to admit it was.

I think Evatt has two issues here.

One, he is so far inside the problem, he can't see the wood for the trees. We've all been there in life.

Two, he has nailed his colours to this new formation (and recruited for it to an extent). I hope he changes, but don't expect him to.

As much as people criticised last seasons rigidity, there was at least a system and a plan. Saturday in particular was a tough watch, with players (midfield in particular) not knowing where to look for a pass. Cogley (who i like) and Schon (looking at you Ludonautics) are now expected to do even more work than before to compensate for losing a midfielder. When the ball does make it forward, the gap between midfield and front 3 is huge.

We 'might' win on Saturday (I don't think we will if nothing changes), but it will only paper over cracks.

Feel sad it has come to this for Evatt. I've never enjoyed his touchline behaviour, but he's clearly a guy who is desperate to succeed professionally.

Ian, if you're reading, ignore the requests for a Plan B. Just go back to Plan A (and we'll worry about the rest in a few weeks)

As we discussed recently mate, me and you aren’t too far away on this debate. The crucial part above is missing the word “did” “On the whole it did work”

It working “on the whole” wasn’t good enough last year, it had to be better than that. As you say we are not getting it right at all so far, so it’s hard to see under the current regime, how we even get to the point of where we were last year! Never mind improve on that!

This talk of going back to 5-3-2 is understandable to achieve this, but last weekend, the interview and the scapegoating has done irreversible damage IMO.

Trust, Calm-minds, freedom, belief, self-confidence are what has made this brand work, I don’t see that returning to the level that gets us up challenging again, do you?

So hypothetical question(s) and @Johnnyrotten you can answer too seeing as you don’t fancy us this weekend.

If Evatt was to stay for the season, when do we win our next game?

At what point do we go into a game thinking this is where we can get a win?

Or do we not win another game all season and go down with the poorest record ever?

no, and in addition to the oxford manager showing everyone how to nullify us, you got the huddersfield manager saying

“I think Anthony Evans’ goal tells you everything,” he added. “We are winning the game and have four or five men in their penalty area because they are still trying to play out."

I don't know though now what it will take for him to get the boot

1 heavy defeat?

3 games without a win?

4?

5?

the next time it becomes quite apparent the players don't have any confidence or self belief?

shite this

My gut says he's gone in a week or two either way, Sharon's just lining up his replacement.

Then again, my gut literally makes shit up, so who knows.

Confirmed Craddock gone.

I’d like to thank Matt for all the work he has done during his time at the club," said Evatt.

“He made an important contribution in all the positions he filled, initially working with our young players and was pivotal in the introduction of the B Team, then as a valued part of my coaching staff.

“We constantly review every aspect of how we run the football side of the club and following talks with the board, the change we have instigated is purely down to a re-structure of the coaching department.”

A statement added: "Everyone at Wanderers would like to thank Matt for his valued contribution in all the roles he has filled during his time at the club and wish him well in his future career."

Too many Craddocks spoil the broth. We’re all feeling a bit Craddocked. We need to learn not to attempt the Craddock at corners and be careful that moving forward we don’t become overcooked with Craddocks.

Other than that not much really
