We don't even get to see a proper game of football. Plenty of poor seasons when we've been frustrated by late goals conceded etc, but never this limp surely? I used to think last minute or unlucky defeats were the worst feeling, but this new era of not even joining in is far worse, because once the initial disappointment is done, you realise there's actually no hope for the next game that isn't a "gimme". That feeling of certainty that we turn up at Huddersfield and its a carbon copy of today, they won't need to break sweat. It's the ease with which we got brushed aside in those games. We were never in the games at all, never. And we should be better than that. And yes, the players have to take responsibility and should be called out - behind closed doors. But it all begins and ends with the manager. Quote

No mention of the fact he's recruited and trained these "mentally fragile" players as he calls them. No mention that his team selection left us wide open. And his answer was to go to a 5-1-4 for the last 30mins FFS. He's a joke, who scarpered down the tunnel as quickly as he could. He just wants a payout. Quote

They really need to change the light bulbs to red around the place. With all the fannys he's signed they can open a brothel. Pathetic today absolutely pathetic. Quote

Its easy to come to that conclusion after they outplayed us today, but they had scored 2 goals in their last 5 games and are bottom half. Their crowd was flat as a pancake because they are poor to watch. He's doing a very average job this season with the resources he has (eg Clarke-Harris and Hugill on the bench) - beating us comprehensively at home doesn't even mean getting your team to play to their strengths, its not working against many other teams. Then a few home wins defeat at Blackpool and Wigan away You can almost predict it I can see us winning the next 3 - all favourable opponents that hardly ever beat us - Lincoln followed by 2 relatively easy home games, Cambridge and Charlton. Popular Post TM Trotter Posted January 11, 2025 Popular Post Posted January 11, 2025 A good, competitive, balanced game of football where either side could have won it with dazzling attacking play and resolute defending from both teams... the under 11s 6-a-side game at HT was gripping! Rest of it was toss. 10/10 to the Rotherham fans on the top right refusing to move for the Technicolour Dreamcoat of stewards at different supervisory levels. Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 It’s been apparent for a long time that we need a proper old style centre mid and CF….. he just needs to do the honourable thing hold his hands up admit he’s failed and step aside. Quote

I could see it too, we’re all too predictable and there are enough of the shit teams that we will beat regardless to just keep things ticking over, and we tend to get a couple of them in a row to save his skin. Earlier in the season I pointed out his record in the ‘big games’ in each season - he’s averaged pretty much a point per game in them, and that’s boosted by a better record in his first season (L2). This season, we always knew that we’d have more of those type of games, where the crowds are bigger, they’re more local or there’s added pressure on them, in my mind they were Brum, Huddersfield, Rotherham, Wigan, Wrexham, Stockport, Blackpool and Barnsley. 16 games that if we carried on our typical Evatt record would see us get 16 points from them. So far, we’ve played each of them once. Lost 6, drawn 1 and won 1 - 4 points (0.5ppg). Scored 4 goals and conceded 19!! We really are useless in them. It feels like there’s more than just mentality in those games that is wrong at the moment, we just look like a fundamentally poor team that has lost all idea of how we play football, but even if we do pull our act together, there are 8 games in the rest of the season that we can almost write off - we certainly won’t be picking up more than 12 points from them. Even in the best case scenario that we pick 12 points up in those 8 games (to take us to our 1ppg average this season) it leaves us needing 28 points from the remaining 14 games in order to just about hit the play offs (based on 3 of the last 4 years). There’s not a chance we’ve got it in us. It’s been obvious from the start of the season, I just can’t believe that an owner that is so business savvy can’t do the analysis to see what’s staring her right in the face. Quote

bolton va va Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 Just back, & that was awful. Too many aimless long balls to McAtee & Collins who won nothing, Morley looks no better than when he left & Randall was as bad as the P/boro lot said with fancy touches that didn't come off & weak as piss (I know it's too soon to write him off but he doesn't look what we needed, a bit more physicality & pace ) & we were weak all over the pitch. I blame the players more than the manager for this spineless performance & i doubt that another manager would get better out of them........but IE signed them. Quote

There has to be something in the "big game" thing, as opposed to just the quality of the opponents. We've gone to Oxford and Wycombe and got decent 0-0 draws (yes we were awful at Wycombe, but did defend OK), we've beaten Oxford 5-0, we regularly get results against Peterboro home and away when they've been play off challengers - because not one of these games ever has a big game feel. They are routine, no crowd to speak of, no expectant Bolton fans treating them as pivotal/pressure games. As soon as that scenario does exist (Oxford again), we collapse and literally don't have an attack worthy of the name. Quote

Golden chances, stupid defensive mistakes or shit misplaced passes. Well, if they happen every now and again and quite clearly a mistake then no you can’t. However, all of those happen week in week out, game in game out. Yep, they’re L1 players but I guarantee not many other sides in the league are riddled with those issues so often. Put simply, if the players cannot execute what you are asking of them and it’s causing results to be negative more often than not then you have to find another way they are comfortable with Quote

I know Evatts come in for serious stick again tonight and quite rightly but the players really must accept their part of the problem and sadly I don’t think they really do. Quote
