If I met him in the street I'd roll my socks down, mince about a bit and ask for a contract.

  • Just seen this comment on twatter that i agree with...   After the play off Final surrender he talked about mental fragility and said he needed to sort it. Nine signings & 24 games later

We couldn’t believe what we were watching on that 3rd with what Johnston was doing.

He just ran next to their player, mostly with about a 4 yard gap. Never once did he put pressure on him, he never tried to tackle him, even when he got his shot off he was nowhere near him to block it - it was like he was just shadowing him in some kind of weird non-contact training routine. Bizarre

Johnston is perhaps the slowest defender I've ever seen us try and accommodate. His passing is atrocious, he can't head it......what does Evatt see in him

The players don't want to play for him, it's obvious. Maybe they liked the other coach and don't like this one. I don't know but it isn't going to be solved by calling them out. How does Sharon think this is going to be resolved? It is dire.

Just about sobered up, we were lucky that trains to Leeds largely unaffected by delays so back to Leeds for a lot of beer watching the City game.

Yesterday was the most disappointing but predictable game for a long time and Evatts post match comments are as bad as ever.

Our team has absolutely no confidence playing to a system they can’t believe in because it simply doesn’t work. And when you are like that you get no luck, first goal is probably a foul on Forester and the second captain Legohead just tries to hoove the ball and the block drops to their man. BUT for the first one if we are not fucking about at the back there is no chance for Forester to lose the ball. The second Tommo should just control it and clear.  Dions miss makes it 5 games on the run we have missed absolute sitters at crucial times.

The team we had out second half even allowing for the fact Tommo and Williams had to be subbed ending with a midfield three of Morley (our tallest dwarf yesterday), NKOTB and McAtee is crazy when you Matete sat on the bench. We were like a school team with players running about chasing the ball and Rotherham using the space they had left behind. How many times were we out numbered by them playing simple balls?

We are fucked with this man in charge and his inability to see we need some steel in the team,

Agree on the squad being overrated. It's definitely unbalanced and lacking physicality.

But a new manager would hopefully not do something as stupid as deciding Rotherham are dominating so let's go to 1 midfielder and 4 forwards at 60mins.

A new manager might also not pre-determine his subs two days before the game.

I think that’s a bit harsh, but accurate for how he’s currently playing.

His height/physicality has always been his biggest issue. Even pre-injury bigger forwards would peel off onto him and dominate him in the air (to be fair you would if the alternative was Santos).

Like Forrester, I don’t think playing as a wide centre back helps him. He isn’t a good passer of the ball but I’d argue he doesn’t need to be amazing as a centre back. The last thing he and Forrester want to be worried about is overlapping down the wing and playing intricate 1-2s in the final third. They want to be battling, tackling, blocking shots etc., with full focus on that.

I do think like many players though there’s just a huge difference between a confident Johnston and one that has lost his confidence. He’s so hesitant at the moment that it makes him look really slow. He’s second to things because he’s second guessing himself, I don’t actually think he’s that slow, he’s just slow off the mark at the moment.

I don’t think any of our current centre backs are playing to their full potential. Toal, Santos, Forrester and Johnston have all showed at some point that they are more than good enough for this league - at the moment hardly any of them look good enough. They’re league 1 defenders, let them defend and not worry about the other stuff and I think you’d see a different player.

(Having said all that, he’d be on my ‘cash in’ list of players that I think have a higher market value than their worth to us, along with GT).

Johnston went from an average 1st division defender to prime time Rio Ferdinand whist he was injured. Now he is back he is average 1st division defender.

It seems there’s one person now that can’t see that there is a real problem ( Sharon), to throw the players under a bus like he has is surely the final straw. It’s a pity he won’t resign and walk away with some credit because he has put in some hard yards for the club. With each day that passes now that credit is just going to evaporate and the chairman and manager may regret they didn’t act sooner.

Truth be told he hasn’t recovered from that injury. He was excellent for us when he first came but his drop off in form this season has been one of the reasons why we’ve been as poor defensively.

I do feel sorry for Santos who seems to get most of the stick but he’s head and shoulders above any defender at the club bar maybe Toal. (Who Evatt brought in for a rushed 60 minute cameo and hasn’t been seen again since).

Was going to type something similar. Reading the comments no one is advocating any other course of action. The signing of Randall says it’s not a financial decision. I still think he stays till 2026 though. I’m not sure what triggers a reaction.

I think he is the weakest link in that back line.

No surprise to me that our best defensive performance in the last month was without him.

Probably not, our squad is hugely overrated, all this nonsense of best squad in the league is well, nonsense

Wed hopefully be more solid and setup so we aren't so easy to play against

For me the squad is fine.

We'll see if/when a new man comes in what they are or aren't capable of.

The squad is plenty good enough for promotion

It was good enough last season and it's added some more than capable players

But the managers is taking them backwards and draining all confidence out the team

He's just as mentally weak as they are

A new manager can restore confidence and get them playing as a team

This one can't

We've been fortunate certainly during my time as a  Bolton fan that we don't chop and change managers for the sake of it and bar Sammy Lee and maybe Keith Hill everyone gets time and a fair crack at it

As such you just know when their time is up

That time is now

Very rarely do managers survive comments like he made yesterday whether they are right or not

Even rarer they have a positive effect and get things back on track

If the board are determined to keep him this season is just going to fizzle out on the pitch and get ugly off it

Given the last statement, it wouldn't shock me if Sharon talks herself into putting this down to a Wembley hangover and some bad apples and we go again next year. Especially if we win the Pizza Paint Trophy again.

I think we're having this conversation again in 12 months time after Morley, Dempsey & Matete have been replaced with three more McAtee/Collins/Randall powderpuff types.

Good post, trying to make sense of this mess at the minute.

I agree with you and @Tonge moor green jacket that this squad is good enough.

But I also can’t dismiss @L/H White to the contrary, because we are just not seeing it consistently from these players.

What I do know is that confidence is massive in sport and for whatever reason these players are lacking it in abundance.

Sharon will not sack him her last comments she stated that the cost of sacking him and employing another manager who will bring in his own coaching staff will be expensive so Evatt may well be here for a while longer hope I am wrong.

The individual players are good enough so TMGJ is right. The balance of the squad is wrong so LH White is also right.

We have a bunch of forwards and attacking midfielders - Dion , Collins, McATee, Lolos, this new kid, Big Vic , CMG , who can look good players but we lacking any steel/nouse in midfield. The fact Evatt has added an extra body to the ‘pretty’ players is just crazy.

Can you point that bit out to me, because I can't find it?

Spot on.

The one midfielder of Morley at the end, was a desperate scream of him hunting for justification of his overload of attacking midfielders.

Bonkers

I have seen it somewhere unless I have dreamt in ?

Rotherham will not have an easier game of football this year.  We were second best all day, it was nothing football, utterly pointless

It's no wonder they were so keen to get it played

One of the (many) things winding me up at the moment is how we come out for the second half chasing the game and instead of being front foot we immediately surrender control to the opposition and don't really have a sniff of the ball for 10 minutes or so.

What the fuck goes on at half time.

I'm also of the view that he'll be here next season

He's very much a part of the core management team at the club

She made a comment a while back that the way football clubs are run  sacking managers Willy nilly and paying off all the back room staff is not sustainable, this was as a general point. I have not seen anything specific to IE.

I remember  something like that but it isn't in that vote of confidence she gave Evatt.I heard her speak for the first time a few weeks ago, her voice reminded me of Lorraine Chase, maybe it was in that interview
