This flying of flags malarkey

People putting flags up , outside houses ,and attached to streetlights and street furniture.

Councils flying the wrong flag over the town hall ?

What would be the flag of choice outside your house?

Obviously on this thread Pride will win by a country mile , but what about the rest ?

Seems a bit mad the Lionesses came home to 10 Downing street decked out in George Cross flags , but if the MSM are to be believed councils are removing them as fast as they can!

Why- must look shit!

Same with Scotland.

Far better with terrorist derived flags everywhere.

I'm popping down to Wales again soon for a week. I really do hope they tidy aware any semblance of national pride, so that I'm not scared.

Christ.

Where are the streets in Bolton with a dozen+ 'terrorist derived' flags strung up on every lamppost?

Can we get through one summer with people behaving normally in this country? If it's not pissing on memorials or burning down hotels it's this kind of noncery.

And don’t get me started with Northern Ireland

Is there any surprise here? The Palestinians were on Hitlers side in WW2 purely because of his hatred of Jews. Had he won, it wouldn't have taken him long to ship them to the death camps with a 'untermenschen' label attached in one way or another. A bit like how all the middle class whitey revolutionary Islamist apologists would likely be beheaded at a later date should they take over the world

Some of these same repulsive screechers would likely have been the same ones accusing Musk of a Nazi salute.

Hypocrisy on the left is just a given.

You need to visit the States. You'd struggle to find a front yard without a US flag. There is nothing wrong in being proud of your country including the displaying of its national symbols.

It seems that you think differently. 'Normally'. If you're fucking normal, I don't want to be.

Can any of our learned posters please tell me exactly what “taking our country back” actually means?

I’ve asked a lot of people who post it on Twitter and not one has given an answer. I tell a lie, one did reply by calling me a racist. Which I found a bit odd.

So, taking our country back. From what?

Anyone who lives in this country is, was and always has been able to put a flag outside their own house. If that's what people want to do, crack on.

That isn't what's happening here.

Go on. You know you want to. It's the 'far right'.

Pitiful.

They've been saying it since the EU referendum and they've never been able to expand on it. They just repeat whatever Nigel tells them to say.

Another screeching leftie then for your (long) block/ignore list surely?

I finally saw some of these St George's Flag crossings in the wild yesterday. Someone had gone right to town, even did the crossings in the car park of home bargains. My favourite was they'd painted the arrow bit on the one way directions in said car park.

That'll show 'em (the way to park in a suitably patriotic manner I'm assuming)

If we’re using that bunch of fucking weirdos as the standard bearers for any level of nationalism then we truly are fucked.

Accepted if you are referring to Democrat voters.

If you go to The Mall in London, that looks resplendent with its perfect union jacks all hung exactly the same.
that looks ace and a proper example of displaying national pride.

Meanwhile Bury rd looks like someone ordered the Shankhill Rd on Temu.
it looks crap no matter what the reasoning for it

What happens when there's no world cup.

No it doesn't.

Bury Road isn't exactly awash with top level housing, sweeping gardens, but is generally a bit tawdry, and in some parts has plenty of litter.

A few flags brightens the place up a bit.

Not seen the protest marches in London, then?

Or convenient to just ignore it.

The "Palestinian" flag was also created by a terrorist organisation: the PLO.

Another group with an anti-jewish rhetoric central to their cause.

So often folk say our flag has been abused and used by the far right.

Firstly, if so, then it's perfectly reasonable for other people to "take it back"

Meanwhile the PLO flag is, by definition, representative of an extremist philosophy.

Providing it's not the far right that are putting up the flags. Which I suspect it is in a high number of places.

I was reading the other day that Germans very rarely fly the flag because they don't want to be seen as nationalistic. Just trying to remember German foot ball crowds - I don't really recall seeing their colours.

Apparently it was only when they hosted the world cup in 2006 that it started to become widely used again.

All this shows is that there is a massive undercurrent of people that share the same views. And we should ignore that at our peril.

Immigration needs sorting - no ifs no buts. And it is going to take something radical to change that. If Labour don't manage this in the next couple of years then Reform are a shoe in.

Although I still think Reform have a lot of work to do to convince me and others to vote for them - and their ability and experience to govern. What I've seen from their councils hasn't filled me with much confidence.

Was actually quite nice seeing the flags on the lampposts on the way to Blackpool yesterday. It would have been even nicer if they'd been put up as a sense of pride rather than a sense of frustration.

Every person who has put a flag up has a vote. As for all their families and friends, and I very much doubt any of them are going to be ticking the Labour box.

Tick tock Keir..........

Reform are already a shoe in, regardless of what Labour do over the next few years. Reform voters are not bright people. It's going to be fucking hilarious when their lives are made even worse in order to benefit the top 1%, all because they got whipped into a frenzy about a few foreigners. Enjoy the next few years of a relatively normal, progressive government, because it's going to be an absolute shitshow in 2029.

It wasn't

I was looking for info on the Sydney marathon (lad’s just done a pb) and came across this.

Yep, designed in 1916, almost 50 years before the PLO existed
