He probably was the best player on the pitch, along with Conway and Toal for me. In truth not a lot of competition, and doesn't mean it was one of his better games by any stretch.  Tutu not upto his usual levels (but battled well and caused them to foul him countless times), ACD not great but OK, front 2 a long way from being MOTM, keeper nothing to do, CBs hardly troubled, Simons OK but not at Sheehan's level today.  So yes, just 3 contenders for MOTM and no problem with giving it to Sheehan as it was marginal.

I thought he was good, his goal obviously topped it off, though overall one where there weren't huge standouts but plenty who were solid and stepped up on recent weeks, the changed shape a big factor, especially with Conway and Dalby. All three defenders were on their game throughout.

Few people have mentioned McAtee and Dempsey doing well which is true but god McAtee loves a little flick when we need to just hold the ball. As I say overall was good but those little moments late on had an old man like me panicking

Dempsey was brilliant, that tackle when Wigan were breaking and he won a sliding tackle from behind, was the kind only he can do.  Then he broke after we'd defended a corner in the 93rd minute and I said to myself "we've won" and he tried that pass to ACD but failed to execute it.  10 seconds later we had somehow conceded a corner without Wigan doing anything to deserve it, I was cursing Dempsey then.  But corners from both sides were rank all day, can anyone remember either keeper even catching a cross?

Grumpy bastard only got home after final whistle after watching a pointless U16s game… popped out to my mates all shitfaced so back home; anyway, where’s @Rubberkex?

Sorry, not having that one.

They were a constant outlet. Burstow to feet, Dalby in the air. And because they had players behind them who were finally interested in winning the second balls, we overwhelmingly dominated possession without even a hint of the Johnston-Toal-Sheehan triangle that has haunted us all season.

Will also add that being right behind the goal gave me a great perspective not just on the Sheehan goal but also the seriously good save Tickle made from Dalby’s header. Much like last week’s single bright spot, it was created with Conway putting an early ball in and fantastic movement from Dalby to get in front of his man.

Give them a chance to build a partnership and I’ve got renewed faith that they can be a real handful in this division.

We are invested in Dalby the next Three and a half years....Burstow only until May. I think along with Mcatee they have been crying out to play alongside a partner up top. Burstow will only get better but it may not be with us. SS could do worse than try and get Burstow now on the cheap.....Other than that we are a natural scorer away from going up

If we dont play them again for another 10 years they can stew on us beating them the last 3 times weve played. Fine by me!

Still work to do, we're still 3 games behind on the all time H2H

That’s one negative fucking view of a dominant away win mate

Also big shout to the fans after Burstows miss all you could hear was his name being sung. Given the tension leading up to the game that must have given the players a lift.

It helps that his face fits and he has a catchy song.  If Randall, Dalby or McAtee had missed that alongside not having a good half, they would have got pelters.  The players don't get treated equally by some fans.

Which players would you put forward for MOTM other than those 3?  Genuinely open to all opinions, those were my best 3.

Fuck me just enjoy the moment.

Moments like today turn seasons.

We are well in the mix despite a turgid run of form.

The manager change and adapted today and we beat our biggest rivals in a must win game.

Stick your micro analysis and know it all bullshit right up your arse.

Absolutely this.

Felt utter euphoria that ball going.

All the worries and grumbling over the past few weeks, plus all the worries and stresses and strains of life.

All gone with one net bulge and proper delirium.

Me and my lad hugging, 4 lads behind me all over the show and a little girl and her mum going mental infront.

Makes it all worth while.

Aye, been a very tough start to the year and this has put a smile on my face.

Yes they were all on their game, I just thought Toal was at MOTM levels and the other 2 just did their jobs well and without fuss.  Some on here thought Johnston shouldn't be near the team, for me he's in the top 3 of player of the season, but we all see it different clearly.  Solid is the word, that's how they played today, but I've seen ACD, Tutu and Simons at higher levels than that a few times.

I’m just happy and pissed, so could make a case for all of them, but let me be as balanced as I can.

Forino - not MOTM, because Wigan were awful going forward, but he did everything he needed to. He’s a complete difference to GJ and Toal in his physicality and gave them absolutely fuck all.

Conway - right up there. He’s a wing back, not a full back.

GJ and Toal - dunno, they looked good but they generally do against shit teams. Lets see how they do against an actual forward line as a back 3.

Tutu - never ever stopped. Did he lose it a couple of times, yes, but did he absolutely tear them to shreds with ACD down that side from the first minute to the last - yep. Their left back looked horrendous - Tutu played his part in that.

Sheehan dominated. Bollocks that he was poor in the first half, the forwards just didn’t take advantage. The guy is head and shoulders above a L1 level.

Simons got better and grew into it. Really clever runs supporting the left side. Not MoTM but solid.

ACD - 6/10 but my god he shits teams up. He’ll be class in this free role. The farmers field he played on didn’t help him but still well worth his place on the pitch.

Burstow - worked hard but doesn’t have the quality. A top striker replaces him next to Dalby.

Dalby. Big MOTM shout for me. Won countless headers, caused them all sorts of Problems. Effective outball, unlucky not to score. Get a proper striker off him in a front 2 and he might just show us what he can do (I’ve had him in proper carthorse territory before today but he just needs players round him).

Anyway - far more than 3 decent players. We hammered them. Should have been 3+. Loads of MOTM shouts.

OK no problem, I just thought Dalby was a bit meh first half, coughed up possession with poor 1st touch on at least 3 occasions, and clumsby with a couple of attempts from crosses, not dominant at all.  Improved 2nd half, that header was outstanding, the sort he was doing for Dundee United because - amazingly - they had a left footer crossing from the left and a right footer crossing from the right.  Great save by Tickle as you say, that would have been a goal against TSL.  So overall, I think Dalby did OK but when we kick off at Stevenage I don't want him to have another 1st half at the level he was today, I think he can be better, as can Burstow because a better team than Wigan might punish us.

Re giving them a chance to build a partnership - my opinion is do that with 2 of our own players that might be here next season - Dalby and McAtee, who is a better player than Burstow and more likely to score.

I don’t think McAtee is disciplined enough to play in a front two, he’s too prone to go wandering about which would then leave his strike partner isolated which sticks us with the same problem we’ve had all season

I agree, although I do think he was generally pretty good (also a couple of Wigan chances that were caused from his poor decisions).

For me, if there’s 1 signing that will make the difference between us going up and not then it’s finding a striker that can play off Dalby now that we look like we’ll have 2 up top. It doesn’t need to be a big physical presence, he’ll do that job, just someone who knows where the net is and can create their own chance. I said it before but this generation’s Le Fondre will be the difference between us going up this year or not. Good luck finding them.
