Beautiful. Loved Schuey ‘s passion at the end. Shown everyone than there was no issue with him & Sheehan.

Great performance & energy. Result goes down to the manager for me, tweaked some things and you could tell we’d been working on set pieces & getting more crosses in.

Right subs at the right time too. Great energy from McAtee.

We still have to start turning results like this into runs though. Got to get a point or three Tuesday & push on for our home games.

We are woeful in front of goal though. It’s a worry. Have to be looking for a goalscorer & creating more chances.

We really do mate. I’m a fan of Burstow but I said to @caffers after the game - if we’re going 2 up top now then Dalby showed what he can do as the target man, he just needs this generation’s version of Le Fondre playing off him. A proper goalscorer making runs off Dalby and feeding off his knockdowns would have a field day.

If he’s going all in on this formation for the rest of the season then finding our version of May / Wells etc. that just knows how to put the ball in the net when given a chance is a must.

I reckon we'll push on now - I really do. Massive confidence booster today. Supporters back onside. Ever team has a blip in the season unless they're tearing the league up and have loads of money. Let's hope that was ours and we can put it behind us now.

Few fresh faces coming in should help too!

I hope so

I figured that if I had a rant about Schuey that he’d prove me wrong 😄

I genuinely like the guy & today he showed everyone he’s willing to adapt. But we have to turn this into something now.

Oh yeah, but I'm not in an empathetic mood today. And will make the view from the other side and even better read

Max Conway was outstanding today.

I think we've potentially got a very good player on our hands here.

I don't think he's quite quick enough to teach the very top, like a Connor Bradley. But at this level he's outstanding and I imagine he could make the jump to the Championship.

Be a few clubs sniffing around him if we don't go up I reckon!

I presume Schumacher will be sticking with this formation for the foreseeable? If so, wonder if he'll be having a rethink about transfer targets, we don't really have much cover for the wing backs and we'll probably need another central defender and a striker?

Horses for courses more likely. We've been good almost all season at home and the 4231 gives us extra bodies to break down teams (and has served us well versus the better teams).

Away we need a more solid set up and that was better than we've seen all season. Hopefully a mixture of the 2 as and when needed.

I think Temple is the fourth CB. Agree we need a wing back and striker.

Sure Christie can play right CB……probably be better there

we've got new guy, Taylor, and next season we have Inwood coming back

Leaner squad with everyone more involved and invested should be where we aim to be in 2 weeks. It's only up front we desperately need some additional quality

There were some great performances but apart from the well-executed half volley I thought Sheehan wasn’t one of the best as he made a lot of stray passes and needless fouls.

yet Wigan's manager (and fans) thought he dictated the game.

(and you forgot to start with "I like Sheehan but ...")

Thought that, obviously not much actual goalkeeping to do but his housekeeping and distribution were calm and pretty good. One very good long ball out to ACD late on

TSL was decent on the ball and it gave him false confidence to join in with passing around at the back (or halfway line).  I'm kind of hoping the new keepers are a bit shit with the ball at their feet, and let the outfield players do their jobs and the keepers do their's.

Someone will shortly  be along to tell you minimum expected passing accuracy is 87.4

Is that another chance bollocks statistic ?

No idea. The way I look at it, if im feeling im beating life at 70.0 + am happy.

I like Sheehan but suggesting he dictated the game is short-changing several players who drove us forward in what was a long overdue team performance today.

I can understand Wiganers going for that cliche because it’s like saying “Bolton only won because they have one good player”  - rather than admitting that we were better than them pretty much all over the park - which is a harder pill for them to swallow.

Better. Much better. Far from great but can’t knock their attitude, application and work rate. The trick now is getting that same level of everything when it isn’t a derby

he’s had his criticism and rightly so but I thought finally, Dalby gave us the dimension we have been missing and what we expected from him.

yes he is limited in many areas but their CBs will know they were in a game and his hold up play was exactly what was needed. He gave us that central focal point. Give him service and he will get goals

Could live with those stats every week

IMG_1882.png

I'm a big Sheehan fan but agree with @Wanderlust that it wasn't one of his better games - poor 1st half, decent 2nd half and good to see him getting fired up with the crowd in line with upping the tempo, not sure I've ever seen him gee the crowd up in 5 years!

Re those stats, do they include corners.  He took 2 corners in the 1st 10 minutes, both failed to beat the first man, the ball broke back to him from one, crossed again, 1st man cleared easily again.  Really poor, but still an 87% pass accuracy, surely corners don't count?

Anyway him and ACD are the only players to score 2nd half winners twice this season, this is the player SS subbed before H-T last week.  Those 2 players stay on the pitch for me unless we're already winning.

More I watch it back the more it looks like he did. Sheehan put a bit of slice on it, but not that much.

Tickle gifted us the 1st goal at our place too, gave the ball to Gale in front of goal.

Looked dodgy off that decent shot from Simons too.  Not seeing a good keeper there, does he only play bad against us?

The point being, if you get a shot on target in L1, you might score.

Our problem is, most of those shots from where Sheehan was, end up in the crowd, just get the damn thing on target and you might either score, get a jammy deflection or keeper spills it for Burstow to tap in from 8 yards (we can hope!).

Luton and Lincoln have drawn which is a decent result

He played the bulk of that 'player of the year' season at Crewe as a marauding LWB, looked much more effective further up today, got into crossing positions, joined in attacks more and wasn't so threatened defensively (notwithstanding they were rubbish). Put a couple of really good balls in of the type the Rotherham lad was whizzing in when we played them at Xmas.

Poor first half but good second

Agreed, another that improved 2nd half, same as Burstow, Simons and Sheehan.

Nobody's mentioned Toal but he was a rolls royce.

Just hope SS sticks with the same line up for Tuesday, they looked so much more like a team and we now need to build on that and let their confidence grow. Should have been a bigger win but that should really give everyone a big lift tonight. Well done Wanderers a real team effort.

Did they not also look like a team in the last 25 minutes though.  We arguably had our best spell, and went and won the game, after McAtee and Dempsey came on.  We aren't currently scoring any goals when Burstow's on the pitch and he's been off form for months, I'm not sure how we justify picking him yet again just because Sheehan scored when he was sat on the bench.

Right wing back in particular, we are bit light on that side with christies mobility issues.
