I’m just happy and pissed, so could make a case for all of them, but let me be as balanced as I can.

Forino - not MOTM, because Wigan were awful going forward, but he did everything he needed to. He’s a complete difference to GJ and Toal in his physicality and gave them absolutely fuck all.

Conway - right up there. He’s a wing back, not a full back.

GJ and Toal - dunno, they looked good but they generally do against shit teams. Lets see how they do against an actual forward line as a back 3.

Tutu - never ever stopped. Did he lose it a couple of times, yes, but did he absolutely tear them to shreds with ACD down that side from the first minute to the last - yep. Their left back looked horrendous - Tutu played his part in that.

Sheehan dominated. Bollocks that he was poor in the first half, the forwards just didn’t take advantage. The guy is head and shoulders above a L1 level.

Simons got better and grew into it. Really clever runs supporting the left side. Not MoTM but solid.

ACD - 6/10 but my god he shits teams up. He’ll be class in this free role. The farmers field he played on didn’t help him but still well worth his place on the pitch.

Burstow - worked hard but doesn’t have the quality. A top striker replaces him next to Dalby.

Dalby. Big MOTM shout for me. Won countless headers, caused them all sorts of Problems. Effective outball, unlucky not to score. Get a proper striker off him in a front 2 and he might just show us what he can do (I’ve had him in proper carthorse territory before today but he just needs players round him).

Anyway - far more than 3 decent players. We hammered them. Should have been 3+. Loads of MOTM shouts.

Wigan are going down

I agree with most of that and I definitely didn't say there were only 3 decent players. Dalby wasn't at the level of my 3 best IMO for his wastefulness 1st half, but we don't have to agree.  When we lose I never come on here and say everyone was shit and when we win I never claim everyone was on the top of their game.  You said Simons got better and grew into it which I agree with, but you're saying he didn't start well and took time to adjust, that's not a MOTM performance, he only played about 70 minutes, same as Burstow, maybe 40 minutes of being decent?

All that really matters is that the team got it right today which is fantastic after the month we've had.

(Does anyone else still think the Port Vale training session was important - you'd think it was a season defining game reading the nonsene on here, 2 of the starters left the next day!).

I'm a big Sheehan fan but agree with @Wanderlust that it wasn't one of his better games - poor 1st half, decent 2nd half and good to see him getting fired up with the crowd in line with upping the tempo, not sure I've ever seen him gee the crowd up in 5 years!

Re those stats, do they include corners.  He took 2 corners in the 1st 10 minutes, both failed to beat the first man, the ball broke back to him from one, crossed again, 1st man cleared easily again.  Really poor, but still an 87% pass accuracy, surely corners don't count?

Anyway him and ACD are the only players to score 2nd half winners twice this season, this is the player SS subbed before H-T last week.  Those 2 players stay on the pitch for me unless we're already winning.

I think your "these players scored our winners so have to play" view is probably as obstinate as my "our only clean sheet away came with Erhahon, Simons and Dempsey in midfield (despite them being down to 10 men) so they have to play"

Today was great, but don't want us to just try to repeat that every match, including leaving Sheehan or ACD on every match if they're not playing playing well. I want a return to Schumacher's tactical flexibility of when he joined - set us up best to win in each game.

One thing I definitely agree with is someone else needs to learn to take corners because Sheehan can't

I don’t think McAtee is disciplined enough to play in a front two, he’s too prone to go wandering about which would then leave his strike partner isolated which sticks us with the same problem we’ve had all season

I take that criticism of McAtee, he drove me mad coming back supposedly "defending" but just giving away cheap free kicks 30 yards from our goal.  But I'd take that for the improvement over Burstow who doesn't get involved enough for me and often drops deep looking for the ball but without the ability to play that deep.  Yes Burstow is physically stronger and can hold off a defender better, but I was hoping that he'd be winning some headers in the opposition box to assist or try to score but its never really happened, overall I'm not sure what he's meant to be, a finisher or a leader of the line or a no.10.  McAtee is a 10 that will assist and score his fair share, without ever winning a header or tackle 😀

Still buzzing, ss looked like the weight of the world has been lifted off his shoulders.

Not surprised as he’d be staring down the barrel of a gun if he’d lost that game.

He can win a derby game which is like the pressure of a play off so SS might pull it off

Hopefully the change of system, the confidence of today’s win and a few fresh faces in the squad sees us go on a run .

What a fantastic day, some semi decent results too elsewhere. We've got to enjoy that today, the fans, the players and the manager included has earned that today.

We all know what we must do now, we have to back this up on Tuesday.

But I genuinely believe that can be a turning point. There's a lot of matches to go, 7 points from 2nd is virtually nothing at this point.

Gotta just look at the next game and try and win that, start building some momentum.

The keeper couldn't have asked for an easier debut. But you just feel and hope that the change in shape, the performance, the result, and even the new keeper, hopefully with a few signings on top we can really get this promotion push going again.

Ps, I've seen enough from Dalby already. He's not a goal machine, but he definitely adds something to the team. His presence and ability to turn a difficult ball into a goal scoring chance is definitely commendable. We do still need another forward for sure to add some extra firepower.

I would love it if after doing the double over them lot we get promoted now and never have to play in that rubbish souless dump again.

Change in formation and a win

Can't ask for more after the recent shite

Fell asleep and missed the goal, got to find the right balance of when to start boozing with late kick offs

3pms will be 1am here

Got to navigate 5.45am for Stevenage

You'll adjust everyone gets up earlier here, especially summer.

Generally I'm up about 4.15.

Not going to read backthrough the post match comments but that was a promotion side out there today ( only if they play like that every week), yes the tactical change helped but they were full of energy, aggression and intent from minute one and whilst not being at their best won at a canter.

Wigan must be scratching their heads.......we are now giving it to them like they used to to us. I think we have a manager who finally gets the players to see how much it means to the fans. There was some spite in that performance and I for one loved it!!

Wow what a day read a few posts MOM SS changed the system and we are a different team well done SS you made us proud.

Wigan fans I know are well in the dumps want Lowe sacked and worrying about being relagated it’s great being a wanderer living in Wigan today.

It helps that his face fits and he has a catchy song.  If Randall, Dalby or McAtee had missed that alongside not having a good half, they would have got pelters.  The players don't get treated equally by some fans.

You're right, though there's a section of our fan base who've a fixation about McAtee and have given him a long-term free pass and dig out the ditty about him at every opportunity.

Aye, been a very tough start to the year and this has put a smile on my face.

The power of supporting a football team like ours.

Hope your year picks up pal and today is a turning point for all of us.

That's little to do with rating him as a player or wanting him in the team, and more to do with having a good song to sing, because we don't have many.  See ACD song, its zero to do with the esteem in which players are held.  Last year it was the Forino song, even Cogley had one, but Simons and EE don't.  Not related to ability.

Great win, reasonable results elsewhere, but in isolation it’s only the beginning

now kick on please …….

I feel that the change in system really upset Wigan, who probably trained to combat our winger system..

Will he play wingers next time or wing backs, we've shown both systems work and we have the staff for them.

Best I've seen Dalby for us, and I think once the system fully clicks he will show his worth.

And if we have to play 3 at the back to build confidence with Johnson pushing forward when he's able.. so be it.

10/10 shithousery from the media team this morning. (For those not on social media, Wigan have been doing this all week)

I think there are valid things to be said about how much to read into one game, but we can all probably have a day off from that.

In a week where there was a suggestion of in-fighting and a team in freefall, every single player in a White shirt put a serious shift in yesterday. Some were still lacking in quality despite that effort, some were very good, but they all absolutely deserved the win. And of course the fans deserved it more than anyone too.

Let’s hope so…. If we keep winning or even playing well don’t change the system and only rotate players when absolutely necessary.

A bit from the Wigan side near the Wanderers fans ...
