Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Looking dry but windy. Bonham to do a Felgate? Quote
desperado Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I’m going to suggest Bonham Toal. Forino Johnston Tutu. Erhahon. Dempsey Conway Burstow. Gale Dalby Essentially the formation we had at Wigan, but with Gale and Burstow operating behind Dalby as opposed to ACD. I think his pace will come in handy and there’s enough protection behind him to include him instead of another CM. Quote
Arrested development Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Burton at home always ends up a struggle. I think we will win, 2-1 or 1-0, but I can't see this being a classic. Quote
L/H White Posted January 27 Posted January 27 feel these rotten conditions will suit them much better than us missing players etc these seem a huge price at 6/1 Quote

Reading SS comments, I think it was done to help beat the one to one press, but they didn't get the movement and quality of passing to get through it. We'll see soon enough if they change it, or indeed if Burton employ a different system. Quote

Didn't have anyone in where Sheehan would always be in-between defence and midfield ready to receive any short passes. Leaving Toal and Johnston with only the pass out to the full backs. I like both Erhahon and Simons but they're very similar players, need Morley to try and copy Sheehan Quote

Simons ahead of Dempsey too IMO but that is a 50/50 call. Quote
Lostock Whites Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) I definitely feel that we should go back to the 3/5 at the back tonight but with Dalby & Burstow down the middle, especially with ACD now out. Forino gives us that big presence and can strengthen our set pieces. I would start Christie too, have him and Conway out wide on their stronger foots and getting crosses directly in the box to cause mayhem. Or Gale on the right if needed but not sure about him as a wing back. They will inevitably sit back and make it hard for us to break down. Therefore peppering their box with crosses sounds simple but really think it's the way to go. They're 20th for a reason. I'd have Dempsey in the middle too for energy and feeding off the scraps and linking with the strikers Bonham Toal Forino Johnston Christie Morley Simons Dempsey Conway Burstow Dalby Edited January 27 by Lostock Whites Quote

Quick, physical press can put him out of the game if he just sticks to his usual. He, like the rest, sometimes have to modify their game as needs must during play. This is where the coaches have to earn their corn by enabling players to subtley change it as necessary, without having a wholesale re-shape or changes before hand. That's arguably problem within the squad that goes back to Christie's comments about it being quiet. A talker, organiser and ideas to manage on the pitch. Quote

I just don't think he's got the legs for WB. Takes him 20 minutes to get back after taking a corner Quote

I wouldn't be looking to have too many in who'll be about us passing it around them tonight, would sooner see us get it wide early, in early, challenge and get around 2nd balls. Defences like theirs are happy playing all night just shuffling from side to side while teams play around in front of them. They far less like constant pressure to clear, head and block crosses, especially in the corridor of uncertainty around the six yard box. Eventually they'll make a mistake, score an og or give a pen away. It'll take some doing to generate noise tonight, best way is the ball being in their box a lot. Alehouse stuff but so be it. Quote

gaztruman Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I feel like we don't do great against Burton. Would be great to get a win tonight! Quote

Didledee Posted January 27 Posted January 27 It would be truly great if we could win comfortably for once but maybe not by too much - which may put some doubts into some minds who are in charge of recruitment that actually we don't need incomings that bad. 3-1 Quote
Zog1 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 We played a bit of 3421 with 2 psudo no10's in the last 1/3 of the Leyton Orient game. I think it worked, which is ironic considering it was the formation SS won League 1 with. The problem we have is if he's going to stick with that or is going to revert to 4231 or even 532. If he's going to recruit he needs to pick one and recruit for it. I suspect this is why we haven't seen business up until now, as we require different players for each, and he hasn't really settled on a formation. Quote
Ratwhite Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Burton NIL would make me smile and of course a goal for us Quote
