Anelka Ineligible For Bolton Clash - Report

Nicolas Anelka will not feature in Chelsea?s final Premier League game against former club Bolton Wanderers, according to reports.

The French striker moved to Stamford Bridge from the Reebok in January for ₤15.8 million, and due to a new ruling introduced last year he may be ineligible to face his old club on May 11.

The ruling states that no player can play against a club they have been loaned from during the season. It is the same situation that forced Jermain Defoe to sit out Portsmouth?s clash with Tottenham earlier this year.

The problem arises because ? according to The Sun ? Anelka was initially signed on loan by Chelsea.

Blues boss Avram Grant was keen to draft in the former Arsenal hitman prior to Chelsea?s clash with Tottenham on January 12, and hence a loan deal was hastily agreed on the Friday beforehand while the permanent deal was sealed a week later.

Anelka?s absence could prove crucial, as Chelsea chase the Premier League title and Bolton seek to avoid relegation.

Chelsea request that the Premier League grant a special allowance so the ex-Real Madrid man could play, but their case was dismissed.

Signed on a feckin loan initially? What's all that about! A club with a billionaire owner can't cough up 15 mill straight away!

I can't really see this as they had plenty of time to work things out. Everyone knew that Anelka was on the move and even back in December Chelsea's name was mentioned then. So my way of think - this was sown up in the first week of January when the window opened.

I can see that being possible.

A loan takes far less time to get registered with the FA and Premier League than a permanent transfer.

The nearer to the weekend a deal goes through, the less time you have to complete the paperwork before the next game.

This news would have made a difference if Chelsea had nothing to play for in the league and wanted to rest players for the Chumps League Final but seeing that is unlikely to be the case, as mentioned above, Drogba will now play the full game.

I'm not sure Anelka woul;d have played anyway, he may have been a sub. In this instance, he'll just be replaced on the bench by Shevchenko

Exactly how I see it - would make sense as they didn't they sign him towards the end of the week?

I'm more worried about him playing on the Sunday

Indeed, my little ginger friend.

Don't be getting all pedantic now. Next you'll be letting facts get in the way of a good story.

Think on, lady!

So, we didn't have the cash to spend in January? Plot thickens?

read the article again

they wanted him registered in time to play against Spurs

they did so by getting him in on loan

the deal to buy him went through the next week when they had plenty time to sort it all out

according totalksport theres a clause in his contract that he can't play

nowt to do with loan deals or league rulings

If chelsea need to win the last game, it doesnt matter who plays for them, they will beat us.

If they had already lost the league, I'd rather have Anelka playing against us. I am sure he would have one of his "off" games
