Beltin, done it for about 12 years.

Take the kids to all sorts of fancy hotels for weekends away but tell em they're goin camping and they're like pigs in shit.

All depends on if you dont mind a bit of rough especially if its wet. Get thisel some decent kit and you'll be reet. Them ?30 tents in argos arnt worth a w?nk. You'll get 2 or 3 weekends away then the seams start splitting, the poles stat breaking, and you'll be cold wet and miserable. They are fine if you want to try it out but nowt more.

Get thsel up some big hill for the day, then spend the night sat watching the sun go down and the stars come out, getting slowly pissed next to a BBQ with a good book, and you'll sleep like a dog, wake up in the morn, get the bacon cookin, jobs a good un.

I went to that camping place in Wiggin this aft and was impressed with what I saw. Am doing a car boot sale this weekend and anything I raise is going to go into my camping fund!

Only a personal observation. Camping is fcuking shiyte. Nowt wrong with sleeping under the stars as long as there are 5 of em.

Re tried it two years back for the scooter clubs Lancelin run. Fook that for a game o sowjers. Cowd, uncomfortable and you can hear every other fecker snoring their b0llocks off.

Hotels for me. You can keep that third class accommodation.

Only done it at festivals until last weekend when I went to Great Langdale, quality place and some nice pubs! One sells a quality cider called Old Rosie, 7.3% absolute rocket fuel! Ended up crashing some guys 21st birthday party in a barn next to the pub and proceeded to insult a couple of ladies calling them yokels. Lesson learned, take the man away from civilisation and he turns into a cretin!

All in all, good laugh with your mates however nothing more annoying than having to trek 1/2 a mile for a dump first thing in the morning.

Agree with Smiffs totally.

We get away with the kids a few times a summer, taking both lads from when they were a baby.

As an alternative camping shop have a look at CastleCroft Camping (now part of JR Leisure) in Bury. We got a 8 man Vango Aspen on one of their sales weekends for a fraction of the price of other places.

Just done 5 days in the lakes camping with Mrs bogs and our 4 year old daughter, the little 'un fooking loved it - and if she's happy it makes life a whole lot easier. :good:

PS - You can be unlucky though and end up with some scumbags right next door <_<

I went camping this weekend in the New Forest with my little nephews. They loved it!

It was the first time I have been camping since I was a kid, and whilst it was OK, I think just the two nights is more than enough, as it is as long as I want to go with out a shower (there are shower blocks, but sod that for a game of soldiers)

I enjoyed the fact that we (the adults) all had a good drink and eat ourselves silly with barbecued food, and it was good for the kids to run around all day in a safe envirnment, without a playstation or computer game in site.

I didn't enjoy the thought of communal showers and shared toilets. I also didn't like the concept of having to lug dirty pots, pans and plates over to a communal washing up area.

So in summary, I think it's great for 1 or 2 days, but for a fortnights holiday, forget it

Camping is one of my pet hates.

Suffered nothing but disasters burns, bites & thefts. To name but a few, also one year at Glastonbury I had to cancel at the last minute. The tent I would have been sharing was stolen within an hour of it being put up, with everything in it.

Went to the Lakes for a week an few years back, pissed down all week, hated it.

Put it down to the bad weather and tried again in France a few years later. Lovely weather for 2 weeks, still shit though.

Our Summer has been and gone.

Wait until November/December to buy new gear, when they're virtually giving it away.

Our Winter of Discount Tents. I'll get my coat.

[Tis an aquired taste, granted but if you take to it and you dont mind mucking in or mucking out, you`ll love it!

The beauty of it is, yer can pay fer the pitch each day, so if you are sited next to a family from hell, you can up sticks and buggar off somewhere better?

ps. do your homework on the intended area of visit, making special notes of where each pub is, in relation to the camp site! Walking along unlit country roads at neet, is frought with danger! So although thi might have a big torch, just keep thi eye open fer bogey men who may be out ont prowl! JJL]

beltin, nice site up near Millom in south lakes, Butterflowers it's called, short walk round the village to the ski bar where you can do wakeboarding and stuff, or like me just get hammered watching others do it on a sunny afternoon! spot on!

Personally I prefer caravaning - you get to laugh at the the people in tents when in rains! till, have yet to convince Mrs Crawley that any sort of holiday where you stay in a field is a good idea.

I love camping.

I used to go camping a lot when I was younger, from tents, trailer tents, tourer caravans and statics.

I like how you can just decide on a Friday afternoon, if the weather is right, to take yourself off somewhere nice. My friend has just bought a 6 man tent and is trying to persuade us to go camping over the Bank Holiday. I'm up for it, but the others are filled with horror at not having access to a proper private bathroom.

Puffs.

I vote yes to camping, me and our peg got a few nights next week up near Lochinver in the sticks of Scotland before I go on my blistering rampage from Budapest to Geneva via here and there. Caravanning, however, I'm pretty much totally opposed to.

Camping in a tent is brilliant for shagging, let's not forget.

An elitist socialist? Typical

I'll have you know that those poor people in the tents could be classed as downtrodden minorities
