what you class as 'an effort to win the fans over'?

Personally I'd just like to see Megson be a bit more positive and upbeat in interviews and stop using phrases like ?this place? and ?these lot? it's like he's constantly distancing himself away from the club. If he wants to get fans on his side obviously things on the pitch need to keep on improving but also show a bit of pride at running our club.

we could have easily attracted somebody with a better track record

But we couldn't. It's a high profile job (it's in the Prem and was UEFA Cup) and yet the best on the shortlist were Coleman, Souness and Megson. We were denied permission to speak to Bruce. Megson was the best choice from the 3 available.

If a manager wanted the job, they would've let the relevant people know and talks would've been engineered.

Theres ways of doing things properly and booing the manager or singing 'Browny is a Wanderer', 'Browny's coming home' aint constructive. Megson is right, onward and upwards needs a full team effort which includes the fans :good:

To be fair I think that was more to wind up the Fishermen, plus I would say he is!!

The problem with Gary Megson is that he has done everything possible to alienate any decent relationship with the Bolton fans.

If he wants to build bridges it's a start.

I know by speaking to Forest and Baggies fans they had the same problems.

The constant digs at the Bolton fans in interviews don't help.

He should be big enough to take the praise and criticism in the same way.

My main gripes with him are Lisbon and the fact he couldn't care less about the Junior Whites.

He will always say that he kept us up last yearso sacrificing UEFA cup was a necessary evil.

Until he starts treating the fans with abit more respect doubt he will win people over. Things like the Junior Whites and the Fun Day sum up what his feelings towards the fans are!!

I think he should stop saying he is nt bothered, then maybe people would beleive him.

He sounds like a bloke in a pub telling you he has been dumped and crying whilst explaining he aint bothered.

Also an excellent point in here that not all fans are booing him, he can either react to those that are (which is what he is doing) or react to those that are supporting the team.

if he is not prepared to come over and clap the fans after a game in case he gets booed then it will never change if he did and showed the boo boys he really isnt bothered then i might listen to him.

i do not boo him, did nt sing for phil brown but i do find his constant moaning a ragging pain, if as he says the fans will never like then either accept it or shut up about it.

there are no links between club and fans and reports are that he does not think it is important for players to build these, well if we aint important when it comes to a family fun day, supporters meeting etc etc then why are we important when he decides ?

Nonsense, if you believe that those 3 were the only possibilities, we could have been more pro-active in selecting/poaching a manager, there were many better options with superior management records than Megson, the FACT is that he was the cheapest option and that is why he was selected.

Who's 'fact'? He was selected because the board felt he would be the best man to keep the club in the Premiership... the board were spot on... because he kept us in the Premiership. The only error I can see was giving him a 3-year deal, but then which manager would leave a 3-year deal (at Leicester) for a 8 month deal at the bottom club in the Prem.

He was cheaper than Bruce, correct - ?3m Brum wanted. That would be Steve Bruce who has done what worth-?3m-more than Megson?

He did venture 10 yards from the dugout towards the fans at Hull and applauded us

How in any way does Megson show respect for the fans? you mean by his constant use of 'this place', regular jibes at the fans and low level ambition he's decided that Bolton should aspire to.

low level ambition he's decided that Bolton should aspire to.

Iiiiiiiin one. There, for me, is the reason Bolton fans never wanted Megson - it brought us/them back down to earth with a bump.

We are not a big club, we will not get in the Champions League and we might win a cup once in a lifetime. Too many fans thought we were bigger than we were and expected a big name to want to come embrace Bolton Wanderers. Never was, never will be, going to happen. Megson was a wake-up call from a dream we enjoyed.

The ambition was always to stay up, anything over and above would be a bonus. It's just the emphasis that has shifted, not the ambition itself.

=D> =D> =D>

I would also add, in the UEFA cup jaunt last year, he played the `2nd XI` for the final 3 games of that campaign.

There were 2 things that really went against him there.

1. that bunch of `2nd XI` players pulled 2 unlikely wins out of the bag and

2. when we finally lost due to this policy the 1st XI put in a spineless performance at pie eaters the following weekend.

.....ergo he was a victim of his own successful policy.

As for keeping us up - you won`t find a bigger optimist than me and I was 100% sure we were down. Astounding feat to keep us up. Truly astonishing piece of management to dig us out of that hole, particularly after the 3-2 reverse to the Arse

No, no, no

When we lose, it is Megson's fault, when we win, it's because of the fans.

Really!!!

I didnt want the bloke as I didnt think it was the right appointment if we want to be more than relegation fodder each season or even worse a yo yo team. He started to win me round that maybe he could prove me wrong. Then Lisbon and Wigan happened. He lost me that week.

Yes we stayed up some of it our own doing some of it other teams self destruction. Im not convinced with his signings and Im certainly not convinced about his attitude to the fans. Ie FAMILY fun day farce, Junior whites incidents, Goldline/Lifeline parties etc

This never happened under Allardyce

I, personally, couldn't give a flying f?ck whether Megson attends BWSA meetings, Family Fun Days, Junior Whites, Goldline raffles etc etc.

His main jobs are to identify and recruit players to strengthen the squad and then to select the best players for a given game.

I'm not his biggest fan, but his signings seem decent enough so far: results aren't horrendous and I think we're moving forward slowly. The more successful the team is: the more popular he'll become.

Get off his back and let him do the job he was appointed to do.
