What happened to him not being keen on going for the job because of his history with the Wanderers? Not that you can blame it at all, take work where it comes but this will only sour his ties to many of our clubs support. On the plus side, Blackburn is now goin' to be a juicy clash, eh?

Allardyce named Blackburn manager

Allardyce had a successful spell in charge at Bolton

Blackburn Rovers have appointed Sam Allardyce as their new manager on a three-year contract.

The Lancashire club sacked Paul Ince on Tuesday and made it clear they wanted a new boss at the helm for Saturday's home game against Stoke.

"Rovers are delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager," said a club statement.

Allardyce, 54, has been out of work since he was dismissed as manager of Newcastle on 9 January.

The new manager will be officially unveiled at a news conference at 1600 GMT on Thursday.

Ince was dismissed by Rovers after only 17 Premier League games in charge.

Rovers are second from bottom of the Premier League and have not won in the league since they defeated Newcastle on 27 September.

After a winning start under Ince's tenure, Rovers have won only three of their top-flight matches this season and are on a run of 11 straight games without a victory. 606: DEBATE

I can't say I'm thrilled

Allardyce had also been linked with the managerial vacancy at Sunderland.

He was highly successful during eight years at the helm of Rovers' Lancashire rivals Bolton, establishing them in the Premier League during his time in charge at the Reebok.

The Trotters also reached the final of the Carling Cup in 2004 and qualified for the Uefa Cup for the first time in their history in 2005.

Rovers play successive Premier League fixtures against Newcastle and Bolton in January.

Former Blackburn striker Kevin Gallacher told BBC Sport: "It is not a surprise choice.

"Blackburn needs someone who can put the club back together again and I think he can do that."

Allardyce has also managed Blackpool and Notts County.

At Bolton he was renowned for innovative thinking, using scientific techniques to keep players fit.

But there has been no word at Rovers about the future of Ince's backroom staff of Archie Knox, Ray Mathias and Karl Robinson.

Graeme Souness, who managed the club from 2000-2004, had also been linked with the job but had already ruled himself out of the running.

"I'm afraid you are talking to the wrong man," Souness told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph newspaper.

"I don't know anything and have had no contact at all from Blackburn Rovers. I'm not your man, I can definitely say that."

I don't blame him, top league job on his door step, he'd be an idiot not to take it. I think the last year has made him realise he's never gonna manage Real Madrid so unfortunatly he's going back to what he's good at. I'm hoping his time has gone, loads of people are doing what he did now. I suspect it's not tho and he'll do the business with them. I don't follow the hatred of him. I'd never of seen us play in europe if it wasn't for him. Some of the teams we use to play regularly are now drowning in the lower leagues. However I'm not wishing him the best of luck hope he takes them down.

Confirms he's a tosser IMO...

Neglected BWFC for months while he concentrated on getting the England job

Left BWFC for 'time out'

Appointed Newcastle boss pretty soon after that

Took all our staff when he said he wouldn't

Keeps his fat motoring mouth warmed up between jobs after being sacked

Appointed Inbred boss

i have no issue with the man for leaving us, good luck n all that but he has just joined a smaller club with smaller crowds, less money and less potential.

He will do OK with them but surely Sunderland was the one for him. He could have achieved greatness up there which is why I put ?50 on him as their new manager. (bastard)

Theres nothing for him over there, a shocking lack of ambition in my eyes
