Just watched the original 1932 and 1983 versions of Scarface on Blu-ray, and they both look and sound amazing

That was the first film I was genuinely shocked at, as a kid I couldn’t get over the chainsaw scene

Finding Jack Charlton.

Only watched the first half of it last night. Documentary about Jack Charlton, his career and his battle with Alzheimers. Very poignant and respectfully done. Excellent so far.

That was pretty brutal and I believe like Casino the violence was toned down

There’s a fine line between violence and needless gore

True but when it comes to gangster films I don't think they'd get anywhere by just using colourful language,!!! Also you could argue a lot of the gangster films where in part based on true events.

I agree that some films, mainly horror films go too far, and this is coming from somebody who is anti censorship. The Japanese torture films such as Grotesque and the Guinea Pig series of films are just gore for gores sake with no real storyline to them.

Good Friday means I'll be keeping up my now annual tradition of watching The Long Good Friday

If you've not seen it, it's the best British gangster film EVER

Took me till the 4th watch to realise it had Charlie out of Casualty in it

Never even heard of that film. I'll give it a play later.

Can anyone recommend a decent war film? Not seen many. SPR is quality, watched Fury the other day which was OK. Tried to watch Dunkirk but turned off after 40 mins.

That's a bold claim as there's been a few decent British gangster movies, Brighton Rock (The original), Get Carter, The Krays, Layer Cake, Legend, Gangster No. 1, Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch to name but a few.

Will agree though it's definitely a British classic

Not seen Brighton Rock or Legend (unless you think Tim Curry as the devil counts as a gangester)

Gangster No 1 is toss

Lock Stock and Snatch are ace

But TLGF is the best, I stand by that

Legend was the Tom Hardy Krays film you muppet!!!

Surprised you haven't mentioned Get Carter as for me THAT is the classic British Gangster movie. (The remake with Stallone was total shite)

Also would like to add to the list Rise Of The Footsoldier and Essex Boys

ah right, yeah, I've seen Legend

me and mate watched it at same time on flight back from Dubai

at the end, my mate genuinely said "those blokes playing the twins were both very good"

There were I mean he was, Tom Hardy is a rarity nowadays, a true quality actor, can't decide which Kray he was best at playing, my vote would just go to Ronnie I think.

Thought Paul Bettany was proper scary in it, Malcolm McDowell was channelling Alex DeLarge a bit I thought.

Surprised how many haven't seen TLGF, one of the best British films of all time.

The ending - Hoskins plays is perfectly and essentially that scene where he's talking about the then wasteland of docklands, and you see what the area is now, is spookily correct.
