It depends if Clive Knott is reffing or not.

What's up with him? He was both my RE and year tutor many moons ago.

You can't be offside if:

  • you receive the ball directly from a goal kick, a throw-in or a corner
  • you are in your own half of the pitch
  • you are level with the second last or last two opponents

That'll be because the ball cannot be kicked forward from a corner.

If you put the ball down in the arc as far away from the goal-line as you can, you can stand forward of the ball but still can't be offside.

As, for example, in the 2-man corner defending a lead in injury time.

That's because the arc is considered to be an extension of the very corner point, as you can't place the ball there because of the flag. But yeah, it's fine to specify you can't be offside from a corner too :P

No. Its because rule 11 in the laws of the game state (as Mickey said)

You can't be offside if:

  • you receive the ball directly from a goal kick, a throw-in or a corner
  • you are in your own half of the pitch
  • you are level with the second last or last two opponents

Otherwise the rule would state that you cant be offside if the the ball is played from within the corner arc.

Remember playing sunday league and someone saying if a player passes the ball forward to a goalkeeper they can still pick it up.

Surely bullshit though but never really looked into it.

Edit: Just checked. Bullshit. Didn't take long.

The offense rests on three events occurring in the following sequence: - The ball is kicked (played with the foot, not the knee, thigh, or shin) by a teammate of the goalkeeper, - This action is deemed to be deliberate, rather than a deflection or miskick, and - The goalkeeper handles the ball directly (no intervening touch of play of the ball by anyone else).

There are some very important exceptions to the back-pass rule. If a player passes the ball back to his goalkeeper using his head, chest or knee, the goalie can pick up the ball. The goalie can also pick up the ball if a teammate passes it to him by accident. For example, a defender might slice or scuff his clearance, accidentally kicking the ball towards the goalkeeper. In this case, the goalie can pick up the ball.

what are the laws on corner kicks?

they said on a live game on ITV last year that ball only has to touch the outside of the arc to be deemed ok.....

Unless you're Joey Barton, and then the crowd can rip into you anyways, but that's because you're an 'orrible bastard.

Good to hear he's on the mend.

He used to borrow the School minibus for the local away games.

The 2-2 draw with Burnley (the 9-men game) was a belter for a 14/15 year old!

I disagree about him not being a good ref,20 odd years ago he was an excellent ref.
