tarian1979 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) Gutted for the lad and for the club. Get spearing in now. We won't go up with a full season of of any of pratkey vela or Andrews next to medo. Medo and spearing just sit and protect suspect back Line Edited July 30, 2013 by tarian1979 Quote
radcliffe white Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Its going to sound harsh but the only way holden should play for us again is on pay as you play deal.i do feel for him but we need to look long term, were struggling for funds for players as it is. I may be wrong but has he just signed a 1 yr deal?if so that has been written off i just think we have done alot already for him and its not one knee anymore its both. Quote
Casino Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Gutted. But if there's one positive to take from this it's that it may present vela with the opportunity so that we can discover the next Holden. Hoping the club realise that the 4 centre mids we already have is plenty to cover 2 centre mid spots. Its not about numbers though, is it Owen Its whether they're any good Medo is as good as owt in the division Beyond that its folk who wear a shirt Quote

Velas untested but has potential. We also have players like gregus waiting in the wings. Eagles can play a central role too. Not to mention mark Davies coming back mid season. I honestly reckon holden wouldn't have featured in dfs plan and wouldn't have until he had some matches under his belt. Quote
tarian1979 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) And I still hold Coyle partly responsible, our big players should of been rested at OT that close to a semi Edited July 30, 2013 by tarian1979 Quote

You are in for a disappoinment if you think Pratley, Medo and Andrews is a good enough central midfield to get us promoted. If Davies pays up for Spearing that wouldn't make the difference either. Medo is good enough but needs a quality new signing with him.And forget the unreliable Mark Davies, back in November injured again in January and disappears too often when he is on the pitch anyway Quote

I wouldn't have been impressed if we just gave up. The rest did Robinson no good either. Quote
tarian1979 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Isnt hindsight with me, i said before the game dont pick the main men. Just like when clubs rest players in cup games when they are struggling against relegation, which is now considered acceptable by many, i dont see the problem with resting players in league games when your safely in the top half but have a massive, very winnable, cup semi on the horizon and the league game is one you are very unlikely to get anything from anyway. DazBob Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Absolue bollocks. Injuries can be picked up anywhere, be it in training or in a match. No one could've anticipated Johnny Evans diving in studs up on Holden. Absolutely gutted for Holden ... and for us for that matter. How much can a lad take?? He'll have been pretty much out of the game for 3 years by the time he comes back from this - if he comes back that is - that's a fucking long time. I don't doubt Holden's got the mental strength to come back, but will his knee(s) be up to the job? I'm fearing not. Absolutely fucking gutted. Quote

tarian1979 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I know the can, injuries, but, id still rest the players in that situation. Why do managers rest players for cup games then when struggling in league Pick your battles. Just like playing international footballers in a friendly v a pub team on a pub standard pitch (newport) was stupid. Should be playing championship teams in friendlies, league one at lowest, when in the prem. Serves absolutely zero purpose risking players worth millions against part time players who'll be thinking "im going to clatter this 20k a week footballer" Quote

tarian1979 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Fair enough we'll agree to disagree. I wouldnt be doing that all the time like, as how often are we in cup semi final? Rarely. Quote

Hoping the club realise that the 4 centre mids we already have is plenty to cover 2 centre mid spots. I think Andrews is very very poor; Pratley isn't a forceful enough player for central midfield; Vela is still unproven (as is Gregus). Other than that, you've got the numbers bit right. We'll have to agree to disagree. Quote
tarian1979 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Id of rested them to keep them fit for the semi (not to prevent injury, but equally it reduces the chance of injury) Probably not the vast majority no, but that standard of football is a lot more tackles flying in Quote

Other than that, you've got the numbers bit right. We'll have to agree to disagree Lets have spearing signed and him and Medo sitting in front of dodgy back line and (trying) to protect it. I havent seen that much of tierney so cant really comment on him, baptiste is so so what ive seen but im saying dodgy back line cos knights in there, enough to make any back four dodgy. Leave the attacking to lee/eagles/ngog/beckford if playing 4 4 2 or hall in there for certain games if going 4 5 1 and one of the forwars out Quote
DazBob Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I agree. Now Holden's written off for the season we simply have to get Spearing. I thought we looked at our best last season with him alongside Medo. Spearing knows the club and knows the players so it would be as gamble-free a signing as there could be. Andrews is most definitely not the solution. Quote
Eavesy Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Pratley was one of our best players under df last season. Didn't he bag one at Leicester aswell?, albeit a tap in. If he's down as first choice alongside medo I'd bet he'll be player of the season. Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) Sadly I dont think Holden can come back at he top level there is something inherently wrong with his body, the club have to do the best by him but we as a club have to look forward and not back, it is vital we get Spearing and another centre half in, steel ourselves for the battle ahead and close ranks the fans/players and management, forget the back biting we all have a duty to tow the line this season and lets see where that takes us, im up for the rough and the smooth that the season will bring, its time to bite our tongues and do nothing but BACK the club whenever and wherever possible, lets forget the negatitivity it gets you precisely nowhere..
